SHINee’s Taemin recently had to release a statement of apology after making a joke about earthquakes in Japan.

The issue sparked back on 5 July, when during a livestream with fans, Taemin mentioned the “July 5 earthquake prediction” made by Japanese manga artist Ryo Tatsuki in 1999.

It is noted that Ryo predicted in her manga “The Future I Saw” that a massive catastrophe will strike in July 2025, where a tsunami will be unleashed which is three times higher than the one in 2011.

Seeing that Ryo’s previous predictions like the 2011 tsunami came to life, Taemin’s jokes about the stage shaking while he is performing during the predicted earthquake did not bade well with people.

In a statement released on his Instagram Story, Taemin posted, “I apologise for the part where I talked frankly about the earthquake and wanted to reassure worried fans. I am regretful on what I said lightly without sufficient consideration of the situation of the people in the area or the dangers of natural disasters.”

“I was worried a lot too and felt relieved that it went through without major damage. From now on, I will be a person who thinks and speaks more carefully. Thank you,” he added.
