Japanese singer-actress Kirari recently announced that she is retiring from showbiz for good.

Sharing the news on social media on 13 July, Kirari, who previously moved to Taiwan to live a normal life following her cancer diagnosis, said that she seemed to have fallen back into the role of a public figure since she returned to Japan.

“After undergoing two cancer surgeries, followed by metastasis, and eventually starting chemotherapy, I found myself constantly thinking about life and death. It felt like I had gone as far as one can go. Though my chemotherapy has now been completed, from this point forward, I want to live freely, in a way that feels true to myself, not as a celebrity, but as a person, starting anew, in a new place,” she expressed.

Kirari said that she would like to “graduate” from the life of “Kirari the celebrity”, and that the feeling had become even stronger after her health issues.

“To the fans who have supported me since childhood, you are the most precious, and I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart. To my agency and everyone I’ve worked with, thank you so much for all your support. I sincerely appreciate everything you’ve done for me,” she added.
