Sean Lau recently admitted that he nearly declined his award-winning role in “Papa” due to the nature of the story.

Speaking to the media about the movie recently, Sean joked that he kept playing roles throughout his career where his loved ones die, adding, “This time, even the children too! I really didn’t want to do this type of movie anymore!”

“Every time someone plays my daughter, she will always end up dead. So, let me give you some warning. Think twice before you play my daughter,” he added, light heartedly.

However, Sean said that the reason he decided to take on the project was due to the fact that the film wasn’t just about a tragedy but also about a man facing loneliness and isolation at an old age.

“I read the script over and over again. Normally, if I decide not to do a film, I’ll just put the script aside. But if I keep picking it up and reading it again, then I know that I am definitely going to take the role,” he added.

Sean said that he never thought that the film would make such an impact on everybody who watched it, and said that it made him realise that his profession is more important than he had imagined.
