After keeping mum about rumours of him paying HKD 8,000 in alimony to his ex-wife Sammie Yu, Ronald Cheng has recently released a statement to address the issue.

On 18 June, following his court appearance, the singer posted his statement on social media, which read, “Recently there have been too many rumours and false reports about our children and financial arrangements (including the so-called “HKD 8,000 alimony” which is seriously inconsistent with the facts), which have seriously affected me, my children and my family. I would like to tell you all: Yes, we are in the process of divorce.”

“In order to protect our children and families and avoid excessive use of public resources, I hereby make the above statement after careful consideration. Also, as the incident has entered the judicial process, it is not convenient for me to make any further response to this matter.”

He also added that the statement was released with the consent of his former wife.

On 17 June, Ronald was spotted appearing at the Wan Chai Family Court, separate from Sammie, for the first hearing regarding custody arrangement. Sammie and Ronald were married for 14 years prior to the divorce.

Both parties refused to comment on the alimony rumours, with Sammie saying, “It’s not convenient for me to say anything. Thank you for your concern.”
