The years 2027 and 2028 may be the year of sci-fi writer Liu Cixin, as movie adaptations from his novels and short stories will be released in that window.
It was revealed recently that “The Wandering Earth 3 (Part 1) has begun filming on 15 April, and will be released in two parts. In addition to Wu Jing and Andy Lau, the film also added new cast member Shen Teng.

Another of Liu’s short story, “With Her Eyes” will also be produced by Chen Sicheng and directed by Dai Mo. The novelist himself will be penning the script alongside “Cinema Paradiso” director Giuseppe Tornatore.
The project is strongly supported by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and is expected to commence in the third quarter of this year.

Liu’s “Full Spectrum Barrage Jamming” from the collection “To Hold Up the Sky” was also reported to have been approved by the movie board and will be directed by Guan Hu. The film tells the story of how the rapid development of future technology has intensified conflicts among humans and triggered large-scale disputes, leading to the creation of full-band blocking interference to eliminate the technological gap.
On the other hand, the highly-anticipated Chinese version of the sci-fi project “The Three-Body Problem”, has been officially announced to be directed by Zhang Yimou.
The project is jointly developed by Enlight Media and Three-Body Universe. It is in the script polishing and early design stage. It is planned and expected to take several years to complete and is expected to be released during the Spring Festival in 2027 or 2028.
