Jay Chou’s camp has dismissed speculations that the multihyphenate was the person previously named in a blind item about gambling debt.

As reported on Mingpao, mainland China’s rumour sites recently reported that a “top-tier male star” had gambled heavily in Macau for seven days straight, and even had to borrow an exorbitant amount of money for his gambling. The star, however, lost RMB 1.03 billion and had to mortgage his properties and private jets in Beijing and Shanghai to pay his debt.

Netizens began to speculate the identity of the star, with Jay Chou and even Wang Feng being mentioned.

However, some fans dismissed this, saying that Jay has been staying in Australia for the past month to work on his album and spend time with his family.

On 11 March, his record company JVR Music finally released a statement denying the rumour, stating, “[There] was a trending search on Weibo about ‘a top-tier male star gambling heavily in Macau’ and other related news. Some netizens insinuated that the male star was our artiste, Jay Chou. The company hereby declares that all the content of the rumour has nothing to do with Jay Chou. Please do not spread false information.”
