Taiwanese actor Chao Chun-ya has recently admitted to using physical violence towards his girlfriend and actress Cocco Wu, not long after the actress went to the police to report him.
According to reports from Taiwanese media, Cocco had already gone to the police on 13 March, accusing Chao of domestic violence. However, it was only recently that she decided to release a statement regarding the issue, saying that she experienced verbal abuse and emotional manipulation from Chao since they became a couple in July last year, which ultimately led to physical conflict.
She stated, “Not only did it cause physical harm to me, but it also became a nightmare,” adding that even though she had chosen to forgive him and tried to help him manage his emotions, the situation still led to physical harm on her. As a result, she decided to speak out about her experience.
In his response to the allegation, Chao admitted to his faults, including using emotional manipulation, verbal abuse, and eventually physical violence. He acknowledged the harm he caused to Cocco and expressed deep regret for his behaviour.
In the apology, Chao confesses, “I have a bad temper and am often cynical, but she is more tolerant of me than I can imagine… Boyfriends and girlfriends occasionally have disputes, but my arrogance and sharpness often make small quarrels out of control.”
“I hit Miss Wu and destroyed her trust. I hit someone who loves me, cares for me, and always puts me first in her heart. I despise my own meanness. I didn’t even have the courage to face her afterwards,” he added.
He also reflected on his own poor behaviour and self-centeredness, apologising to not just the actress, but to everyone who had supported him.
He concludes by saying that he will no longer tolerate such behaviour from himself and will face legal and personal consequences for his actions. He thanks Cocco for still caring for him despite everything, recognising that her encouragement has given him strength.
