Speculations recently sparked that two of China’s famous football players will be working on Stephen Chow’s new movie.
On 4 March, the comedy auteur shared a photo of him shaking hands with retired Chinese national team goalkeeper Zhao Lina on Instagram. In another photo, he also did the bodybuilding pose behind a smiling Li Jiayue, currently the defender in the national women’s team.
He wrote, “Finally met the famous hero [Zhao Lina] and [Li Jiayue]. The nickname of Steel Roses is true. Whether it’s for football skills, smile, height and smell!”
“Little brother is organising a women’s football team with both beauty and skill. If the two join the defence, the audience will also see the beauty of both worlds,” he added.
Zhao later commented on the post, writing, “It’s an honour to meet Sing Yeh.”
It was on his birthday last year that the Hong Kong comedy man announced that he is set to work on a movie titled “Shaolin Women’s Soccer”. It is his first project since directing “The New King of Comedy” in 2019.
