Following the tragic death by suicide of actor Lee Sun-kyun, the actor’s agency recently vowed to take legal action against those who spread misinformation about the actor prior to his passing.
In a statement released on 3 January, HODU&U Entertainment stated that they have begun collecting evidence on relevant rumours and are preparing to take legal action as a way to fight back against malignant rumourmongers.
“We will deal vigorously with all instances of the spread of false facts. In addition, we deeply regret the malicious and uncontrolled reporting by certain media outlets on the late actor Lee Sun-kyun over the past three months. While we hoped that the truth would be revealed through the outcome of an impartial police investigation, we can no longer expect that, so we will personally set the record straight one by one,” the company said.
They also revealed that they have filed a complaint against a reporter on 27 December 2023, stating that the said reporter had spread false information. They also demanded that the reporter sincerely apologise and honestly participate in the subsequent legal proceedings.
“We also have a request. While the investigation is ongoing, we are unable to respond to all interviews as the situation is not concluded. In this case, we request that all reports and all online posts without confirmed sources or fact-checking be corrected or deleted. Hodu&U Entertainment will continue to work hard to ensure that its actors can perform activities in a stable environment. We ask for your understanding and cooperation,” they added.
Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in his car in late December last year amid investigation of suspected drug use. It is noted that the initial test revealed that he was tested negative for drugs and that he had claimed to have been blackmailed by somebody. However, the “Parasite” actor was continuously maligned in the media and by netizens alike.
