David Beckham is set to have his own documentary on Netflix.
The news was shared by the former Manchester United star himself on social media on 14 July, writing, “I’m excited to confirm that I am partnering with @Netflix on a documentary series about my life and career… The series will feature unseen archive, untold stories as well as interviews with the people who have been a part of my journey.”
He also revealed that the series is directed and produced by Academy Award winners Fisher Stevens (“The Cove”, “Palmer”), and to be co-produced by John Battesek of “Searching for Sugar Man” fame.
As described by Netflix, the documentary is a detailed look into the life of one of the world’s most iconic sports icons from over the past 40 years, and will be told through a series of personal archived footage, interviews with friends, family, and his fellow peers.
It is noted that aside from Beckham, Netflix is also working on several other sports documentaries including one for basketball player Bill Russell and another documentary series about the Tour de France.
