Dee Hsu has finally broken her silence following the controversy that stemmed from her remarks about a Taiwanese athlete in the Olympics.
As reported on Sina, on 5 August, two days after the backlash from mainland netizens, the TV personality posted a message on her official Weibo account and wrote, “I am not a supporter of Taiwan independence. Please protect yourself and your family during the pandemic. I wish you all healthy and safe.”
Many took to the comments to support Dee, though there were some who are still dissatisfied with her post.
Some have even flooded the Weibo account of Dee’s brother-in-law and husband to actress Barbie Hsu, Wang Xiaofei, telling him to divorce the actress and take the children away so they won’t be “brainwashed” in Taiwan.
This whole brouhaha sparked earlier this week when Dee found herself losing several endorsement deals after she expressed her support for Taiwanese badminton player Tai Tzu-ying in the Olympics, calling her a “national athlete”.
Mainland netizens were enraged by this, accusing the TV personality of indirectly supporting Taiwan independence, and were further fuelled by Dee expressing how proud she is of Tai even though the latter was defeated by China’s Chen Yufei.
