Amid reports that XiX’s new song could be their last with Universal Music, Eric Kwok recently expressed hope that the group will find success with the song.

As reported on Mingpao, the composer, who appeared at the launching event of the group’s new song, “You Don’t Understand”, said that he would rather not see the group disband due to lack of material, though admitted that it is incredibly expensive to support a girl group.

“Hong Kong’s market is small, with many girl groups and fierce competition. So, every time we produce a new song, we’re very cautious. The four members are still in school, so they don’t have much time for work. Universal has also mentioned needing to cut costs,” he said.

Eric said that XiX management operates more like an independent team, consisting of just him, his wife and another co-worker.

“Supporting rookies for the first few years is guaranteed to lose money, especially with a girl group. I don’t know exactly how much we lose, and handling money is what I fear most. The company said we have to make profits as soon as possible, because so much money was spent on music videos and promotion. So, I have to save wherever I can,” he added.

When asked if Universal sets any concrete benchmarks for XiX, he said they never actually stated specific targets, adding, “They only said that if there’s no breakthrough this time, we have to be psychologically prepared.”

As for the group, XiX said that they are not worried about this being their fourth and last song, and that they will treat every performance like it is the last one.

Following news of her termination from her girl group XiX, Vici Chong recently took to social media to bid her farewell as a member.

On 4 August, the singer posted a photo of her and the other four members on Instagram, and wrote, “Life is full of challenges, and it’s time to revitalise studies. Thank you, Eric, who spotted us since Stars Academy and boldly promoted us to be performing artistes, uncovering more of my potentials, leading me to become a better ME.”

“With super special thanks to Grace [Ip] jeje and Ruby [Chi] jeje who have taught me so many valuable lessons and taken excellent care of me. The most difficult part is to depart with the girls as a performing team, it was always happy and fun and LOUD! I love you XiX and I’ll always do,” she added.

Vici also thanked the fans for their great support, adding that she will always cherish all the things she learned from everybody who have helped the group.

Earlier, manager Eric Kwok revealed that they have decided to part ways with the singer as he and his wife weren’t able to get along with Vici’s parents.

Meanwhile, some fans are blasting Eric for making public the issues between him and Vici’s parents, saying that it was unprofessional of him to do so.

XiX started as a six-member group consisting of Crystal, Caitlin, Charlotte, Kiele, Vici and Aster formed through the survival show, “Stars Academy 2”. However, they made their professional debut without Aster in 2023 through the digital single, “Sis”.

After going from six members to five, it was revealed that the Hong Kong girl group XiX has lost another member, though this time, the said member was outed from the group.

As reported on Mingpao, manager Eric Kwok, who appeared with the remaining four members at a press conference held in Wan Chai, revealed that the group recently lost member Vici three weeks ago due to issues with the singer’s parents.

Emphasising that a manager needs cooperation from the parents, he and his wife however weren’t able to get along with Vici’s parents no matter how much effort was put into doing so.

“My wife [Grace Ip] and I have been artistes for so many years and have never been so angry. I support what my wife said before 100 percent. As for what she said, that’s up to you [to find out],” he said.

As for Vici’s contract, he said that the record company will handle it.

Despite losing another member, Eric said that the group will not be just a four-member group, and that they plan to recruit up to two more members to fill the gap.

Meanwhile, the rest of the members, Crystal, Caitlin, Charlotte and Kiele admitted that they were surprised over the news at first, but respect Eric’s decision.
