With the Year of the Horse arriving, Nancy Wu decided to surprise many by announcing that she is leaving TVB.

Sharing a photo of herself working out at the gym on 4 February, the actress posted, “Today is the Beginning of Spring, the start of a New Year. 2026, a new beginning, a good start! Let’s continue to forge ahead in our work with courage!!”

“In the new year, I’ve decided to leave my comfort zone and explore the world, hoping for more new experiences, new creations, and new sparks,” she added.

Nancy also thanked the managers and colleagues at TVB and Shaw Brothers for their support and care over the past few years, adding, “Even though the way we work has changed, their support remains the same.”

“Wishing everyone good health, peace, and happiness! May everyone have work, and may the economy recover soon! May all industries prosper!” she expressed.

The actress made her debut in the early 2000s through small roles in dramas like “Point of No Return” and “The W Files”. Her first major role was in 2014’s “Overachievers”.

It didn’t take Nancy long to win Best Actress for her performance in “Ghost of Relativity,” which she shared with Kristal Tin. She won again in 2016 for “A Fist Within Four Walls” the year after. However, Nancy started to slow down her involvement in dramas soon after.

Nancy Wu has recently made her first public appearance since announcing her departure from TVB, revealing that she is in no hurry to sign with a new management.

Speaking to the media at the launch of a new store in Causeway Bay, the actress said that her contract with TVB actually expired at the end of last year, and that she is now enjoying her freedom.

Admitting that she has consulted good friend Myolie Wu, who has experience in venturing on her own, she said, “I once felt lost and anxious about the future, but now I hope for a fresh start, and I’m happy to have received many encouraging messages from friends.”

Nancy stated that she has focused on touring in mainland China over the past year, with a concert in Zhuhai in April. She admitted that she has always loved singing, but hasn’t had many drama roles in recent years, so she thought that now is a good time to leave TVB and do what she wants.

As to whether she will do variety shows in mainland China with her husband, Nancy said that she is reluctant on doing such projects. However, she would love to be able to do a show with her fellow Nonsense Club sisters; Myolie Wu, Paisley Wu, Elaine Yiu, Selena Lee, and Mandy Wong.

Nancy Wu has recently laughed off the notion of her having a shotgun wedding earlier, saying that she is not pregnant at all.

The actress, who made her first public appearance two days ago since her October wedding, touched her stomach when asked about a possible pregnancy and said, “Actually, no. Is [the wedding] considered rushing? I just didn’t make an announcement.”

Asked whether the wedding had been planned for a long time, she replied, “It all happened within this year. We decided to wait until after the ceremony before telling everyone. Even our friends didn’t know; only my family knew.”

Nancy said that even fans believed that she was denying her pregnancy, which she found hilarious.

“The two of us are the happiest right now. We’ll think about that later and let nature take its course! There’s absolutely no pressure. Right now, we’re just enjoying our lives as a couple,” she added.

As to why she decided to marry in New Zealand, the actress said that she wanted a simple wedding.

“I’ve attended different types of weddings, and I hope that for my own wedding, I can stay true to our own wishes. My husband is also very low-key; simplicity is what we want. It’s just the two of us at the wedding, followed by a simple meal with our family back in Hong Kong,” she added.

Kenneth Ma couldn’t help but feel joy for ex-girlfriend Nancy Wu, who recently announced her marriage.

The actor, who was in TVB City to participate in Bob Lam’s new show, said that he was unaware of her wedding but that he wished the couple a long life together.

“It’s so important for both husband and wife to be healthy. Everyone must be so happy to receive this surprise during the Mid-Autumn Festival, as it’s a great time for families to be reunited!” he expressed.

Kenneth also stated that he will be sending a text message to the actress to congratulate her.

The actor was said to have dated Nancy from 2008 to 2010. The two reunited in 2022 on the TVB series, “Big White Duel 2”. He is now married to actress Roxanne Tong.

Sharing several photos on social media from their wedding, the actress revealed that they tied the knot on 3 October in the caption that read, “Akin & Nancy 03.10.2025.”

In another post, she wrote, “I found you at the perfect moment. The heavens have truly blessed me.”

Nancy, who had been single for many years, announced her relationship last year, though she kept the identity of her boyfriend a secret for some time.

It was only earlier this year when reports emerged that her boyfriend is a young and promising surgeon named Akin Chan, who used to work for Doctors Without Borders.

Asked if she would visit the girls with Chan, she said, “His scope of work is different from mine and his abilities are far greater. He is with Doctors Without Borders, helping people with medical issues. My responsibility is to bring back information about the visits to raise awareness.”

Hong Kong media reported that the reason why Nancy was mum on details about her new man was because her boyfriend is a young and promising cosmetic surgeon who comes from a well-off family.

Nancy Wu recently admitted that she has been compared to Sheren Tang, the original star of the hit TVB franchise, “Rosy Business”.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who attended a promotional event for the fourth instalment of the series, “No Return” with co-star Wayne Lai a week after the drama premiered, said that she has seen many comments and criticisms about her character Deng Gui Chan from fans of the original.

“Actually, when the series was aired, I probably knew what the comments would be. After a few episodes, I’ve refocused my attention on the characters and don’t want other comments to affect me, so I’m really enjoying myself,” she said.

When asked if she thinks it is unfair for people to compare the two of them, Nancy said that it is understandable seeing that “Rosy Business” is considered a classic to TVB viewers.

“Now that I’m over the nervousness, I just focus on my own role and won’t think too much about comparisons,” she said. “When you’re an actor, it is natural to hear good and bad opinions.”

Nancy added that whatever comments she may get, she will have to accept it because it means that people are watching the drama.

“And that is a good thing, so I am thankful,” she added.

Nancy Wu couldn’t help but laugh over the viral photo of her and Tavia Yeung acting chummy with one another, years after they were rumoured to be butting heads.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who was asked about the said photo of her and Tavia that was taken at Roger Kwok’s birthday party recently, said that she and Tavia spoke about whether or not they should act like they are in conflict with each other that day.

“Since that clip circulated online in the past, it became a classic. We couldn’t help but laugh,” she said.

When asked if she may be competing with Tavia again this year for TVB’s Best Actress award, seeing that they both have a new series, the “Rosy Business 4” star said that they are supportive of one another.

“My drama hasn’t been aired yet. It would depend on the audiences’ reception,” she said.

Asked if she and Tavia would be “fighting” again this year, Nancy smiled and said, “I approve.”

Rumours of a conflict between Nancy and Tavia sparked in 2010, after a clip went viral of Tavia bumping Nancy’s shoulder at the TVB Anniversary Awards and giving her the side eye before she turned to talk to Kate Tsui. Many speculated that they were fighting due to both having feelings for their “Twin of Brothers” co-star Ron Ng.

Both Tavia and Nancy have denied the rumours.

If there is one thing that co-stars Nancy Wu and Wayne Lai can agree on, it is that filming their new drama, “No Return” was truly a challenging time.

As reported on Mingpao, the two stars, who attended FILMART to promote the upcoming series, spoke to the media of their filming experience, with both stars saying that it was hard due to the rush nature of the shoot and the number of scenes that they had to complete.

“The most unforgettable part was doing the sunset scene with Nancy in a paddy field. Because the drive was so far and it has to be completed within one day, we were running around chasing sunset,” he said.

As for Nancy, the actress said that she even lost a lot of weight from filming the drama last year, adding that it had been a long time since her weight dropped below 50kg.

“We would be filming until late at night and we had a lot of scenes, over 400, and the dialogues are very long. I admired Wayne’s memory and even asked him how he could digest such long dialogues and still act well,” she said.

“No Return” is the fourth instalment of the “Rosy Business” franchise, which originally starred Wayne Lai and Sheren Tang. However, Sheren has decided not to make a comeback as the lead actress, and was replaced by Nancy.
