Meng Ziyi has an explanation as to why she was appearing in profile in the recent episodes of her new drama, “Blossoms of Power”.

Netizens recently expressed confusion, after the actress, who plays the domineering princess Zhaoning in the drama, seemed to only show her side profile in the latest episodes. Even when her face was fully visible, one side was obscured from view.

Just as some began to speculate that it was some kind of new cinematography technique, Meng stepped forward to explain the reason during a livestream, saying that she had developed a stye in one eye during filming due to the humid environment and long hours.

Meng said that her eye was so swollen and red that she was unable to apply full makeup.

To avoid affecting the production schedule, the makeup artist could only apply makeup to the side of her face that was in better condition each day, leaving the other side bare.

Meng Ziyi even shared a photo of herself with only half her face covered in makeup during the live stream.

She revealed that the crew also adjusted the camera positions for her and used a lot of side shots to avoid showing her left side, so that she could appear in a relatively perfect state on camera.

She said that her appearance was so different that even her co-star He Yu joked about acting with two completely different people.

Meng Ziyi’s team has recently released a statement in response to rumours surrounding her relationship with her “Keep Running” co-stars.

Earlier, several online users made allegations of Meng’s supposed bad behaviour on the set of the show, including “cutting in line” as well as other unverified allegations.

In response, the actress’ studio shared their response officially by naming some of the individuals who made the claims, and stated that they deliberately fabricated false claims about her.

“Our company hereby declares: Ms. Meng Ziyi has always maintained a friendly and sincere cooperative spirit with all partners. Without further action, we have already commissioned lawyers to collect evidence and will subsequently file a civil lawsuit for infringement according to the severity of the case, and pursue legal responsibility such as apology and compensation for losses based on the degree of infringement. We respect the public’s goodwill discussion based on facts, but we will never tolerate fabricated facts and malicious defamation.”

The statement added that Meng has always treated every task with sincerity and will continue to openly accept reasonable public discussion.

“However, we resolutely resist baseless rumours, slander, and cyberbullying. Rumours stop with the wise; we hope everyone can view this rationally and work together to maintain a clean and orderly cyberspace.”

Fans of Meng Ziyi have now expressed concern over the actress’ health, after it was revealed that she was rushed to the hospital after feeling unwell at work.

On 12 April, her studio issued a statement, stating that Meng suddenly was feeling poorly after the crew finished work on the 11th, and that they have cancelled her filming schedule.

The team emphasised that after being treated by doctors, Meng’s health is fine and she is currently resting and recuperating. They also thanked everyone for their concern.

Despite the team trying to assure that it was not as serious as it sounds, fans couldn’t help but express concern, especially since the actress once mentioned that the longest consecutive break she had taken in the past two years was only two days for the Lunar New Year.

She is also known to have gone back to work a day after receiving medication for food poisoning and peritonsillar abscess instead of opting for surgery.

Prior to filming her new drama, “Jiangmen Du Hou” with Dylan Wang, Meng actually just completed filming “Princess Shang” in February. She also has several other projects awaiting release as well as multiple product endorsements that require her to attend events and shoot commercials.

Fans are now expressing concern over her workaholic nature, with many demanding her studio to review her work schedule and to give her more time to rest.

Meng Ziyi recently assured that she is not at all harmed after the recent fall at the 2025 Tencent Video All Star Awards, and that if there is anything that was bruising, it would be her ego.

The whole incident occurred when the actress took to stage to accept the Most Anticipated Drama Award with Li Yunrui, Bai Lu and Cheng Leo.

The actress, who was wearing a sparkly halter top gown, fell down as she was climbing the steps after tripping on her own dress, despite being escorted by Li.

During her speech, she expressed, “I fell down last year, and I fell down again this year, but I definitely won’t fall next year.”

She later shared an update on social media, telling fans, “It hurt quite a bit. After the check-up, I’m fine, but I feel so embarrassed!”

Meng Ziyi’s camp has recently addressed the recent video of the actress having a mishap while filming her new drama.

In a recent clip that had since gone viral, the actress was seen filming her new drama, “Princess Shang”. She could be seen wearing a white traditional dress paired with a hat with a long veil. The veil drapes down to the ground, unnoticed by an actor behind her, who accidentally stepped on it.

As she began to run, the veil became a tether, violently pulling her head backward. Losing her balance, she falls heavily to the ground, straining her head and her neck.

The actor behind her quickly rush over to support her.

Regarding the filming accident, Meng Ziyi’s studio issued a statement, stating, “The accident happened during a panoramic shoot. Upon arrival at the scene, the crew immediately asked the on-site doctor to conduct a preliminary examination of Meng Ziyi’s condition. Aside from some abrasions, there were no other obvious symptoms.”

“The optimistic Ziyi was the first to comfort everyone at the scene, expressing that she was fine. After readjusting her veil, she has now continued filming. After filming the scene, the crew asked an orthopaedic doctor to conduct a comprehensive examination on Ziyi. The studio has received everyone’s concern, instructions and subsequent improvement suggestions, and will actively communicate with the crew for subsequent improvements to prevent such incidents from happening again.”

Meng Ziyi recently assured that she will be fine, after netizens expressed concern with her unhealthy weight loss.

According to SETN, the actress, who has been busy filming her new drama, “Blossoms of Power”, was revealed to have had her weight continuously dropping throughout filming due to its high-intensity nature.

In just three months, Meng lost nearly 5kg compared to when she was filming “Keep Running” earlier this year.

It was said that she is now 45kg, and with a height of 170cm, Meng’s BMI is below the normal range at 15.4 (normal range is 18.5 to 23.9).

In response to public concern, the actress posted, “When autumn comes on 9 August, after my flowers bloom, I’ll wait for all the others to wither,” emphasising that her weight loss was not due to intentional dieting, but rather the result of intensive filming during the hot summer and the demands of her role.

Meanwhile, the drama’s director also explained that Meng has maintained a high level of professionalism throughout the filming process in order to portray the character.

Meng Ziyi recently sparked mixed reactions when she revealed that she had a hard time getting jobs in the early days of her career because she was “too beautiful”.

Chinese actress Meng Ziyi recently took to social media to apologise for her performance at a recently held New Year’s Eve event.

As reported on Sohu, on 31 December, Meng joined other stars including JJ Lin, Wang Yuan, Jane Zhang, Ele Yan, and Wakin Chau as part of the Jiangsu Satellite TV’s New Year’s Eve Concert that was held at the Galaxy Arena in Macau to bid farewell to 2023 and welcome the New Year with millions of viewers.

However, when the group of artistes performed together the song “Let Me Be Happy, Let Me Be Sad” on stage with original singer Wakin Chau, Meng can be heard singing with the rest, albeit offkey.

Despite going out of tune, her voice could be heard clearly, sparking criticisms from netizens, who accused her of ruining the song.

A few hours after the performance, “The Untamed” star posted her apology on Weibo, writing, “I’m sorry, Brother Wakin. I’m sorry everyone. I really tried my best. Happy New Year!”
