Netflix has recently dismissed rumour that Leonardo DiCaprio, the Hollywood A-lister who has an Academy Award somewhere in his mansion, will be appearing in season 3 of its hit Korean series, “Squid Game”.

Rumours of the actor making an appearance in season three was recently reported by OSEN, with the report saying that DiCaprio will have a very minor role in the said series. It was said that the actor had filmed the third season last year in secrecy.

In response to the rumour, Netflix responded via a rep, “The rumours are completely false. Reports of Leonardo DiCaprio’s involvement in ‘Squid Game’ Season 3 are entirely unfounded.”

It is noted that its lead actor Lee Jung-jae previously met with DiCaprio at the LACMA Art+Film Gala in 2021. When asked in a later event which American actor he wants to see in season 2, Lee simply responded, “Leonardo DiCaprio.”

Season 3 of “Squid Game” will be released sometime this year, with show creator Hwang Dong-hyuk saying that he expected it to be launched around summer or fall.

Netflix finally has an airing date for its biggest series, “Squid Game”, which will be streaming on the platform this coming 26 December.

In a letter written by director Hwang Dong-hyuk, he revealed that not only will season two air after Christmas Day, the series will also have a third season, scheduled for a 2025 release.

“Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who vowed revenge at the end of season one, returns and joins the game again,” Hwang wrote. “Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn’t seem to be an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale in season three, which will be brought to you next year.”

He also promised to try and bring the audience yet another thrill ride and hopes that everybody will be excited for what’s to come.

The original show received critical acclaim and became the first Korean drama to top Netflix’s top ten weekly most-watched TV show charts globally.

Netflix neither denies nor confirms rumours that Im Si-Wan is set to play the lead in season two of the hit Korean series, “Squid Game”.

Earlier, sources reported that the actor will be starring in the lead, following news that both actors Lee Jung-Jae and Lee Byung-Hun will be reprising their roles as Gi Hun and the Front Man respectively.

However, in response to the rumour, Netflix Korea stated, “There is nothing we can confirm about ‘Squid Game’ season 2 and casting. We cannot say anything.”

The response was echoed by Im’s agency PLUM A&C, saying that it is an information that they cannot divulge.

The ZE:A member recently starred in the drama, “Summer Strike”. He is also to be seen next in the new movie, “Road to Boston”.

“Squid Game” star Lee Jung-Jae continues to expand his influence in Hollywood as he recently revealed that he will be part of a new Star Wars series.

The Korean star, who shared the news via video at the Singapore press and partner event Disney Content Showcase recently, stated that he has been cast in the upcoming Disney+ series, “The Acolyte”.

“I star in Lucasfilm’s original series ‘The Acolyte,’ I am happy to become a member of Disney family,” he expressed, “I want you to look forward to ‘The Acolyte.'”

Lee will be joined by Amandla Stenberg and Dafne Keen in the series that will be helmed by Leslye Headland.

The series will focus on the emergence of the dark side in the final days of the High Republic Era.

Among other shows that will be coming to Disney+ soon include Korea’s “BTS Monuments: Beyond The Star”, Japan’s “Gannibal”, and Indonesian series, “Hubungi Agen Gue!” – the latter an adaptation of the hit French series, “Call My Agent!”

Lee Jung-Jae has been named Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the Emmy Awards.

The actor bested Hollywood stars that include Bob Odenkirk, Brian Cox and Jason Bateman to become the first Asian actor to win the award for his performance in the non-English series, “Squid Game”.

In the said Netflix series, Lee played the role of Seong Gi-Hun, who competed in a life and death competition after failing to pay off his debts.

This is the latest accolade that the actor has won for his said role following numerous honours including Critics’ Choice Television Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.

In related news, Lee recently landed the male lead in “The Acolyte”, Disney+’s upcoming Star Wars series.

South Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae has won another award for his performance in “Squid Game”.

As reported on JoongAng Daily, the actor took home the Best Actor accolade at the Hollywood Critics Association (HCA) TV Awards in the category for Streaming Series, Drama.

He bested contenders that include Tom Hiddleston (“Loki”), Gary Oldman (“Slow Horses”), Henry Cavill (“The Witcher”), Tom Ellis (“Lucifer”), Jason Bateman (“Ozark”), and Penn Badgley (“You”).

Lee, who couldn’t attend the event, recorded his speech that was played at the event, saying “Squid Game brought me so much good luck. I am truly grateful for all the love and support that I have received. I am personally also excited because I feel that ‘Squid Game’ allowed me to open another chapter of my acting career.”

“Please look forward to season two of the series as well,” he added.

Meanwhile, the said Netflix drama also bagged the Best International Series trophy at the awards, defeating contenders that include fellow Netflix shows like “Lupin” and “Money Heist”.

Korean actor Kang Dong-Won has recently inked a management deal with Hollywood’s Creative Artists Agency (CAA).

The news was confirmed by his Korean agency, YG Entertainment, stating that CAA will be managing the actor’s work outside South Korea.

CAA is home to big stars that include Oscar-winning actors Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and George Clooney. It has also signed with a number of South Korean talents including “Squid Game” stars Lee Jung-Jae and Jung Ho-Yeon, GOT7’s Mark Tuan, as well as SM Entertainment’s girl group Aespa.

Kang, whose most recent projects include “Peninsula”, will be seen next in award-winning Japanese director Koreeda Hirokazu’s first Korean-language film, “Broker”.

He also reportedly has filmed Scott Mann’s “Tsunami LA” prior to the pandemic. If the film is completed, it will mark his Hollywood debut.

Lee Jung-Jae has won yet another award in the US for his performance in “Squid Game”, this time at the 37th Independent Spirit Awards.

The news was confirmed by his agency, stating that the actor has won the award for Best Male Performance in a New Scripted Series, though Lee himself was unable to attend the event.

“Thank you for giving me this meaningful award and loving ‘Squid Game'” he expressed in a pre-recorded video. “As many people all over the world are loving ‘Squid Game’, many are wondering when season 2 will come. So please wait a little more. And thank you once again.”

He also thanked the “Squid Game” team, as well as to Netflix and viewers who loved the show.

He bested other contenders that include Murray Bartlett (“The White Lotus”) and Olly Alexander (“It’s a Sin”).

This win made Lee the first Korean actor to win the Best Actor accolade at the Independent Spirit Awards, after becoming the first Korean actor to win similarly at the Screen Actors Guild Awards last month.

“Squid Game” stars Lee Jung-Jae and Jung Ho-Yeon made history by becoming the first South Korean actors to win at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Jung, who won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for her performance as North Korean defector Kang Sae-Byeok, couldn’t help but cry as she accepted the award, saying, “I have been watching all of you on the big screen as an audience, dreaming to become an actor myself one day. I just want to say thank you so much and I’m so honoured to be here.”

Meanwhile, Lee, who won the male category of the same award expressed, “This is truly huge that it’s happened to me. I did write something but I don’t think I’ll get to read it.”

“Thank you so much SAG-AFTRA awards and thank you to the global audience for all of your love for Squid Game. And thank you Squid Game team.”

Lee defeated contenders that include Brian Cox, Billy Crudup, Kieran Culkin and Jeremy Strong.

He then took to social media to express happiness over the win, writing, “Thank you @sagawards @netflix @artistcompanyofficial and all cast and crew of Squid game. I am also very grateful to everyone who loved and supported the show. Thank you! I love you all~”

Prior to Lee and Jung, co-star Oh Young-Soo won Best Supporting Actor in the television series category for his role as Player 001 at the 79th Golden Globe Awards in January this year.

South Korean actor Lee Jung-Jae recently revealed that he will not be attending Hollywood’s Golden Globe Awards despite his nomination in the Best Actor in a Television Series category

As reported on Hankook Ilbo, the news was shared by his agency Artist Company on 5 January, stating, “Lee Jung-Jae is honoured to be nominated in the Best Actor in television series category at the Golden Globes, but has decided not to attend. He recognises that Netflix is not participating, and that we have considered other factors like COVID-19, quarantine protocols and overall situation.”

Lee is nominated in the said category for his role in the hit Netflix series, “Squid Game”. Co-star O Yeong-Su is also nominated in the Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series category.

On the other hand, “Squid Game” was named one of the contenders for Best Television Series – Drama.

The Golden Globes itself is being boycotted by many stars, following last year’s controversy concerning the lack of diversity and the alleged corrupted behaviour of the members of the organiser, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

This year’s event would also not be telecast by NBC, though no details were provided as to how the winners will be revealed or where the event will be held.
