The production team for the movie “The King’s Warden”‘ has completely denied the plagiarism allegations that have surfaced recently.

Onda Works, the film production company, stated on 10 March that the film is a purely creative work based on historical facts and that, “The entire creative process is recorded in detail and can be proven.”

A report from the day before stated that the bereaved family of the late “Mr A”, a 31st generation descendant of Eom Heung-do, raised suspicions of plagiarism. They cited similarities between the draft of the drama script for “Eom Heung-do” written by Mr A and the content of the said movie.

Accordingly, the bereaved family reportedly sent a request to the production company to list the deceased Mr A, who died in 2019, as the original author of the project. They also sent a certified letter requesting an explanation about the circumstances of the scenario’s creation and the sources of the materials.

Onda Works has denied the allegations, saying, “Since it is based on historical figures and events, there may be creative works that claim similarities. But there was no causal relationship or access to the work in question during the creative process, and there was absolutely no plagiarism of other works during the planning, development, and production processes.”

The company stressed that the accusations are groundless and that they reserve the right to take legal action.

The film, written and directed by Jang Hang-jun, explores the domestic life and psychological isolation of the deposed King Danjong during his exile in 1457. Park Ji-hoon plays the role of the king, while Yoo Hae-jin stars as Eom Heung-do.

The actor’s last Korean TV drama was “Itaewon Class” in 2020. Since then, he has appeared in films like “Concrete Utopia” and “The Marvels”, as well as the variety show “Jinny’s Kitchen”.

In “Surely Tomorrow”, Park plays Lee Kyeong-do, an journalist who reunites with his former love Seo Ji-woo (Won Ji-an) under unexpected circumstances. At a press conference in Seoul, Park described his character as “a consistent person who doesn’t change. He’s detailed, caring, very considerate, but also determined.” The actor also noted the challenge of portraying a journalist, adding that he consulted director Lim Hyun-ook, who previously worked as a journalist himself.

Park commented that while the series is categorised as a romance, “I think it’s closer to a melodrama. Most people will be able to relate to many parts of the series.”

It was reported that Disney+’s upcoming series “Knock-Off” has now been suspended indefinitely amid the controversies surrounding its lead actor, Kim Soo-hyun.

Sources stated that the production team has formally notified cast and crew of their decision to pause all filming, a few weeks after they announced the postponement of the release date.

Although the crew had previously tried to adjust the schedule and complete the remaining filming, and the final script reportedly has been written up to episode 18, it has now been officially notified that “filming has been suspended indefinitely”, and some actors and staff have reportedly moved on to other schedules.

However, when asked about this, a Disney+ rep said that “Nothing has changed besides the existing official position.”

Written by Han Jung-hoon and directed by Park Hyun-seok, “Knock-Off” depicts a man’s rise from office worker to counterfeit kingpin after the 1997 Asian financial crisis. The drama also co-stars Jo Bo-ah in the lead.

Kim made headlines in recent months after grooming allegations were made against him by the late Kim Sae-ron’s family, who claimed that Kim dated the actress since she was 15 and he 27.
