Historic Stadium Merdeka to rock again as Futureland Music Festival marks grand reopening

Following its relaunch in August, it was revealed that Kuala Lumpur’s Stadium Merdeka is set to host the upcoming Futureland Music Festival.

Speaking to the media at the press conference of the event, Communication Deputy Minister, Teo Nie Ching stated that the restoration project that began in 2016 was so that the stadium will be more accessible to the public and that she is happy that the festival will be held at the venue.

“I am thankful to Warner Music Malaysia for choosing Stadium Merdeka to be the location for Futureland Music Festival. It will be a historic event as it is the first event to be held in Stadium Merdeka since its reopening,” she said.

Teo said that Stadium Merdeka is no stranger to music events, having hosted stars like Michael Jackson for his “History World Tour” in 1996 and Justin Bieber’s “My World Tour” in 2011.

The upcoming Futureland Music Festival will feature local performers like Hujan, Bunkface, Kugiran Masdo, Aina Abdul, Ayda Jebat, Syamel, Tuju, Zynakal, Fimie Don, Amsyar Lee, Rizal Rasid, Empty Page, Fugo and many more.

It will be held at the stadium on 23 November.

Beyond the music, the festival is set to feature the experiential Watsons Glow Up Zone, a Food Village serving local flavors with a modern twist, along with street activities such as pop-up stores, communal graffiti painting, and so much more.

Malaysian rock band Hujan releases full albums on digital platforms

One way for fans of Malaysian rock band Hujan to stave off their boredom at home is by blasting the band’s music all day long!

“We miss performing in front of you guys but in the meantime, do enjoy our latest additions via digital platforms from the comfort of your home,” the band recently posted on their Instagram.

The post was to announce the release of their 2018 album “Suria” and 2020 album “Pelangi Dan Kau” on various digital platforms such as Joox, YouTube Music and Spotify.

So now their fans – or Raingers, as the band affectionately calls them – can enjoy their songs anytime, anywhere. Anywhere at home, that is. They also reminded their fans: “Let’s stay home and do our part to fight this Corona Virus.”

Hujan posted this on Instagram announcing their albums’ release on digital platforms.

Currently, Malaysians are on week 3 of the Movement Control Order (MCO) enforced by the local government since 18 March to stop the spread of COVID-19. Originally set for two weeks, it was later extended to this 14 April.

The MCO requires everyone in the country to stay at home (though this doesn’t apply to essential workers and front-liners, obviously), except for infrequent trips to the outside world to replenish grocery stock or for medical needs.

As it also prohibits large gatherings, a couple of shows that Hujan was supposed to perform at, such as “Let’s Rock Cancer Malaysia Concert x UUM” and “Riot Fest 2020”, have also been postponed until further notice.

Hujan and Kugiran Masdo set to perform at The Bee

Fans are already anticipating the performance of American singer Bazzi at The Bee, Publika, next week – now there are two more artists to look forward to!

Legendary rock bands Hujan and Kugiran Masdo have also been roped in to perform at the newly revamped The Bee. The two local bands are coming together to for an evening of jamming out with their fans, just a day after Bazzi’s performance.

Early bird tickets are priced at RM48, while advance tickets are selling for RM68 (all prices exclude extra ticketing fees).

The upgraded The Bee is set to host music shows of various genres, as evidenced by the recent Maggie Lindemann (despite the slight permit hiccup with this one) and Phum Viphurit performances at the venue.

Expect to see more music acts, both local and international, to perform at The Bee as it is now able to cater up to 850 people, and is equipped with an adaptable mega-deck stage, LED backdrop and international level sound systems, making it the perfect location for music lovers to listen to their favourite songs performed live.
