Gin Lee has denied rumours saying that she has had a secret wedding with non-showbiz boyfriend in a foreign country.

As reported on Mingpao, the singer, who spoke to the media to promote her new song, stated that while the two of them have met each other’s parents, she has no plans to get married yet nor had her boyfriend propose.

“I really don’t think about it for the past few years. I want to focus on my career and there is no pressure on having children right now,” she said.

However, the singer admitted that she will consider doing so in the future.

Gin said that she learned more about herself being in a relationship.

“I feel that the process of understanding each other and yourself takes a lot of time. You really need to understand yourself to know how to love others,” she added.

As for now, the singer aims to release five songs this year and to hold her 15th anniversary concert next year.

Gin Lee recently admitted that she had not faced any issues during her time on “The Voice of China” (now known as “Sing! China”) when she participated back in the fourth season.

As reported on Mingpao, the singer, who was asked about her opinion on the recent controversy surrounding the alleged mistreatment of the late Coco Lee by the show, stated that she only focused on the competition when she joined the show in 2015 under the mentorship of Jay Chou.

“I was unfamiliar with many things when I participated. I had no access to the programme executives and just paid attention on the competition,” she said.

As to allegations that the programme team disrespected contestants and mentors, the singer said that she has no clue.

“Before joining the competition, I adjusted my mindset to keep expectations to a minimum and to only learn,” she added.

Gin stated that everybody has different preferences when it comes to music, and that how well they sing on their own may not be favoured by the judges.

Now that she is a full-fledged EEG singer, Gin Lee stated that her goal right now is to cooperate with fellow labelmate, Hins Cheung.

As reported on Mingpao, the Malaysian singer, who recently released her third single with the company, stated that it has always been a dream of hers to cooperate with Hins, but was unable to do so due to them not being in the same record label before.

“But now we are part of the same company, but I yet to have that chance… I will continue to wait. If I have a chance, I will tell Hins in person,” she added.

When asked what type of music she would like to work on with the singer, Gin said that she would love for them to record a love song.

“There have been fewer male and female duets in recent years and I hope that we can produce a song that can become a classic like Jacky Cheung and Francesca Kao’s “You Are the Most Precious”.

Gin Lee recently announced that she is now part of Emperor Entertainment Group (EEG).

The singer, who also released her first single “Dum Dum” since inking a deal with EEG, stated that the freedom to create was one of the reasons why she signed the contract.

“The new company gives me a lot of freedom, especially in my music and image. They completely trust me, which makes me feel very comfortable. I can cooperate with many different music units. I also finally got the opportunity to cooperate with lyricist Wyman [Wong],” she enthused.

Gin then stated that she hopes that she will be able to cooperate with different artistes of the company in the future, be it in music or movies.

Gin Lee has recently dismissed the notion that she departed from Universal Music due to dissatisfaction for not getting good results in major music awards.

The Malaysian singer, who bid her farewell to Universal last week after eight years of collaboration, spoke to the media at the press conference of TVB’s “STARS Academy 2”, saying that she mainly wanted to change to a new environment and challenge herself.

Said Gin, “In fact, it was not easy for me to make this decision. We have worked together for eight years and I am grateful to the company for cultivating me.”

“So, at this stage, I really want to make more impact for myself,” she added.

As for winning awards, Gin said it is important as it is an affirmation, but that she would keep working hard even if she is not awarded.

Amid rumours that three of its big Hong Kong stars Gin Lee, AGA, and Priscilla Chan have left the nest, Universal Music announced that only two of the three have done so recently.

As reported on Mingpao, the record label recently released a statement on 16 May, confirming the departure of both Priscilla and Gin.

“After their contracts expired, singers Priscilla Chan and Gin Lee left Universal Music to begin anew,” the company said. “During the contract period, the company has released a new album for Priscilla and everything went according to plan. The company will also fully cooperate with the promotion of Gin Lee’s new album.”

As for Gin’s upcoming concert in September, Universal stated that it is outside of the contract and that the company is not involved.

“We wish them well for their future undertakings. We thank them for their contributions to the company,” the company added.

As for AGA, Universal stated that the two parties have a variety of future plans, including a new album, as well as a concert tour, which will be announced later on.

Gin Lee recently admitted that she is extremely elated to receive recognition from the Sultan of Johor for her achievements abroad.

As reported on Mingpao, the Johor Bahru-born singer, who appeared at a skincare event recently, stated that she was surprised upon being named by the supreme ruler of the state of Johor ten years after she came to Hong Kong to pursue her dreams.

“I never thought that one day I will be praised by the Royal Family back home and that he listens to my songs,” she enthused.

Asked if she will be returning to Malaysia soon, Gin stated that she has tried her best to attend as many events as she can in her hometown, but that the pandemic has made it difficult for her to do so.

Last week, Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar thanked Gin and “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah” correspondent Ronnie Chieng for their outstanding achievements on the global stage – stating that the two have brought glory to Johor in their own way.

“I believe Johor has many talents who have yet to be found and nurtured. Let them be an example and inspiration of what Johor can achieve, and also spur our own local arts and entertainment scene to greater heights,” he said.
