Gigi Yim has recently dismissed the notion that she was throwing shade at TVB through her new song, “Colors in the Air”.

As reported on Wenweipo, the singer, who made an appearance at a press conference in Kowloon to promote her upcoming concert, addressed the rumours surrounding the lyrics “The clauses, contents, and criticisms are nothing but waste paper” supposedly being a jab at her past contract dispute with TVB.

Reacting strongly to that interpretation, Gigi says that everyone needs to relax, as it was not that dramatic.

Gigi explained that it felt like fate when she came across the demo and lyrics of the song, and that they already expressed her feelings well enough. Since she is not very good at verbal expression, she told the producer there was no need to change the lyrics.

“Everyone hears it differently. I could sing a love song and someone might think it’s about family. I sang it from the heart, I wanted to talk about myself,” she said.

When asked if she would invite former colleagues and TVB executives to attend her concert, Gigi said that she hopes everyone would have time to come and watch.

“I hope everyone can come watch as well,” she expressed.

As the world enters the Year of the Horse, Gigi Yim revealed that she hopes to find love this time around.

In a recent interview, the singer shared about her resolutions this year, including trying different musical styles and collaborating with more artistes.

However, at the same time, she also expressed interest in dating.

“I’ve always wanted to try and get that feeling, but most of the people around me are seniors or colleagues. I hope to have different experiences so that I can express myself differently in different works,” she said.

Gigi said that in the past, she composed songs based on novels and her imagination, which didn’t feel very real.

“So if I had the chance to date, I believe that would feel the most real, and then everyone would finally feel that Gigi is different,” she expressed, adding that she hopes to have a good relationship in the Year of the Horse.

After previously announcing her departure from TVB to start her own studio, Gigi Yim announced that she is now joining Sony Music Greater China.

Speaking to the media at the press conference where she also launched her new song in The Whampoa, Gigi revealed that her studio has been operating smoothly, but that she decided to sign with a record label since she is not well-versed in the business side of music production.

“It feels like the previous journey has been perfectly written into one travel journal. Now I’m starting to write a new voyage in another one. I hope everyone will accompany me into this new chapter and help me record many interesting and meaningful experiences,” she expressed.

As for why she chose Sony, Gigi said that they shared the same vision.

“Everyone really wants to do things well together. We didn’t take long to discuss before deciding, and now we’re in a gradual adjustment phase… Now that I’ve entered a new stage, I want to try more new things,” she added.

She also said that Sony has not set a quota for the number of releases, as quality matters more than quantity.

“But in the long run, I hope to achieve both quality and productivity. Ideally, I’d like to release three songs this year,” she added.

After announcing her comeback following her departure from TVB, Gigi Yim announced that she is set to hold a special concert in December.

On 31 October, the Hong Kong singer posted a teaser clip titled “My Voyage Goes On”, captioning it “Coming soon”. The clip also had the date of Christmas Eve, which had everybody speculating that she will be performing her solo concert on that day.

She later shared the good news on Instagram Story, writing, “Everyone! December 24th is a special day for me and everyone! What is it? See you at the concert.”

The concert is tentatively scheduled to be held at AsiaWorld-Expo.

It was back in late September that Gigi confirmed that she has established her own independent studio after leaving TVB.

She also denied having signed with a mainland studio, saying, “I’m very grateful that many companies approached me during this time, but I did not sign with any mainland agencies. I’m also curious about where that news came from. But I’m open-minded and welcome any job opportunities,” she added.

Gigi Yim has finally confirmed that she is now no longer with TVB.

The singer, who appeared at the press conference for the musical, “The Memories of Charles Kao”, expressed her gratitude to her former company for their nurturing and hopes to collaborate again in the future, adding that she has now established her own studio.

“I named the studio Yan Hou (meaning ‘Then’) because I often use it in conversations. But didn’t want it to be too cliché, so I used the character Queen instead. I originally wanted the English name to be ‘Natural Queen’, but it felt too over-the-top. Now the official name is ‘Natural Quality’,” she said.

She added that her studio currently has only three team members.

She also denied rumours that she has signed with a mainland company, stating that she didn’t know how the rumour started.

Hacken Lee has recently dismissed the rumour that he is working on paving a way for Gigi Yim to sign with a new company so that she can develop her career in mainland China.

As reported on Mingpao, the singer, who spoke to the media during an appearance at a TVB charity event, was asked to address the rumours, to which he expressed surprise and stated that Gigi’s future has nothing to do with him.

It is noted that Hacken was the coaching supervisor of “Stars Academy”, of which Gigi was the winner for season 1.

“We are with different companies. Stars Academy is like one big family. Tonight, I saw several students gather and perform together. They’ve all improved a lot and look even better,” he said.

“As for Gigi, we occasionally exchange messages, but I’m not involved in anything about her future. Everyone has their path to follow. I’m not her family, and she hasn’t asked for my opinion, so it’s none of my business. I also asked the boss, and it’s not his business either,” he said.

After previously telling fans that she will be making her comeback soon, Gigi Yim recently surprised many by revealing that she is currently in Malaysia.

On 6 July, the singer shared three selfie photos of her at the Petronas Twin Towers at night, and wrote, “I discovered that from this angle, you can get a pretty good shot together with the Twin Towers (provided you ignore the person in the photo).”

“But the more I look at it, the more it gives me this feeling of twin pigtails,” she added.

Her post had her Malaysian fans excited, with many welcoming her to the country and telling her to fill up on delicious food that is synonymous with the country.

Fellow singer Gin Lee, who is a Malaysian native herself, took to the comments as well and posted, “Seriously?”

Gigi, however, did not mention the reason for her sudden arrival in the country.

While she has been on and off the limelight for the past few months amid the supposed conflict with TVB, Gigi Yim recently appeared on TV, though not for a small screen performance.

The 19-year-old was revealed to have filmed a promotional video for the Education Bureau to share her experience of being a student at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (aka PolyU).

Gigi, who is currently pursuing Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Fashion, revealed that she has been studying fashion design for nearly a year and that it has been inclusive and imaginative.

“I had the opportunity to study fashion design and create a work with my classmates. The interesting part is that some mistakes can lead to another work,” she said.

Gigi said that she has always loved drawing designs but has never let it materialise, and that the course helped her to learn the kinds of fabrics and materials that can make the kind of shapes she wants.

Fans who saw the video were happy to know that the singer has found something to keep up the good spirit.

It is noted that Gigi studied at the St Antonius Girls’ College in Kwun Tong prior to being offered a place at the PolyU, which has 10 faculties including Fashion.

Rumours are rife that Gigi Yim will soon be signing with Sony Music.

As reported on HK01, the rumour first broke on 6 January, with sources saying that she will officially ink a deal with the record label after completing her contract with TVB.

It is noted that Gigi was said to have been “frozen” by TVB due to her unwillingness to renew her contract, a rumour that both the singer and the broadcaster have denied. However, it continues to run rampant, especially after fans noticed that the singer seemed to have been shunned by the company.

Sony Music has not responded to the rumour at the time of writing. Many believed that the record label has a good relationship with TVB and signing Gigi would offend the broadcaster.

Singers who are a part of the said label include Jason Chan, Phil Lam, Michael C, Mischa Ip, per se, and Cath Wong.

Despite allegedly being “frozen” by TVB, Gigi Yim continues to prove that she has the star power, with her new music video gaining a huge number of views even without official promotion.

The music video for the song “The Most Touching Moment” (translated title), which was released quietly by TVB Music Group on 10 December, has garnered more than a million views without the singer having needed to promote it.

Gigi’s fans have also flooded the comment section, saying that Gigi still managed to have her music video trending despite her situation with the company.

They also left comments for those who stumbled upon the music video to introduce Gigi to them and asking for “passers-by” to support their favourite singer.

Gigi was rumoured to have been suspended for half a year due to her contract renewal issue with TVB Music Group.

However, it is recently reported that the singer may have been “unfrozen” by the company, as she was able to attend a public promotional event for her music special.
