While Girls’ Generation leader Taeyeon renewed her contract with SM Entertainment, it was revealed that soloist BoA has decided to part ways with the company.

The news was confirmed by the agency on 12 January, saying that their collaboration has come to an end after 25 years.

“After extensive and in-depth discussions with BoA, we have agreed to conclude our 25-year journey together as of 31 December 2025,” it stated.

“BoA debuted in 2000 at the age of 13, and even now, as she marks the 25th anniversary of her debut, she has continued to receive immense love from global music fans as the ‘Star of Asia,’ having pioneered the Korean Wave across Asia. She has also become a role model for countless junior artistes who are leading the global K-pop phenomenon today,” it added.

Saying that the singer-dancer has been their pride and treasure, the company added that they will support BoA’s future endeavours.

Meanwhile, the singer herself posted on social media, writing, “After giving and receiving without holding back, I will leave without hesitation. Thank you for the time we spent together, and I will continue to support the brilliant SM Entertainment. Thank you.”

It was not all bad news for BoA’s fans after news of her concert cancellation hit the Internet, as the singer recently announced that her new album will be released in August.

Sharing the good news on 17 July, SM Entertainment revealed that the album, titled “Crazier”, will be her 11th full-length album that celebrates her 25th year in music.

“The new album will be a special gift to fans who have supported BoA through the long years,” the agency stated.

“Crazier”, which is BoA’s first album in five years since 2020’s “Better”, will have 11 tracks including the title track, ranging from ballad to dance. Some of the songs are even written by the singer.

It was earlier this month that SM Entertainment announced the cancellation of BoA’s Jamsil Stadium concert in August due to her having acute osteonecrosis. They stated that the condition requires the singer to undergo surgery and refrain from strenuous activities.

It was announced that singer-dancer BoA had to cancel her upcoming 25th anniversary concert due to her knee injury.

The news was revealed by her agency, SM Entertainment, stating that the fifth solo concert will not proceed due to her health situation.

“Due to her recent worsening knee pain, BoA was diagnosed with acute osteonecrosis requiring surgical treatment. According to the medical team’s advice, in order to prevent further deterioration of the condition, she must avoid strenuous activities and dancing and undergo surgery as soon as possible, so we have decided to cancel the originally planned concert,” it explained.

Although the cancellation of the concert is regrettable, SM Entertainment said that this year is still very important to BoA, seeing that it is her 25th year in showbiz.

“In order to respond to the expectations of fans, we will release the new album that has been produced as scheduled without any postponement plans. As for whether to hold concerts again in the future, it will be announced again depending on BoA’s recovery after surgery,” they added.

The concert was originally scheduled to be held on 30 and 31 August at the Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul.

BoA has recently dismissed the idea that she is going to retire from music, following recent criticisms against her for her controversial remarks during a live broadcast.

In a Weverse message she posted for her fans, the singer admitted that she has gone through difficult times over the past few years not only professionally but also personally, but believed that she has done her best.

“In the past, I believed that if I just worked hard on ‘what I was told,’ things would get better. But the world has changed, I’ve changed, and as those changes came at the same time, I kept worrying, ‘Is this the right place for me to be?’”

After much thought, BoA said that she decided to hold on to music, saying, “If music disappears, it feels like my life will fall apart. I want to connect with you all through music, in any way, in any form.”

“I don’t know how much longer I can go on stage. But I believe that there is still a burning potential in our hearts. I want to bring that power up again with you all,” she added.

Finally, she thanked everybody who continues to believe in her and express their concern for her.

BoA was slammed by many earlier this month when she made a rude comment against comedienne Park Na-rae, telling TV personality Jun Hyun-moo that he is too good for Park.

BoA recently assured fans that everything is well with her and SM Entertainment, after previously posting an ambiguous message on social media.

The singer sparked retirement rumours on 6 April, after she posted, “I guess it’s okay to finish a work out after my contract ends”, and then clarified that it was a typo for “retirement”.

The post sparked speculations that BoA was ready to end her career, especially after she was criticised for her appearance in “Marry My Husband” last month. They also believed that BoA will no longer be a part of SM Entertainment, just as many other artistes under the agency left the building after their contracts were up.

However, the singer has now clarified the situation via social media, saying, “My contract remains until 31 December 2025. Until then, I will do my best as the singer BoA. Don’t worry, my dead Jumping BoAs!”

It is noted that BoA has been training since she was 11, and made her debut at the tender age of 15.

One Love Asia Festival will debut in Singapore before heading to Osaka next!

Here’s the seatmap for One Love Asia Festival Singapore 2021.

The 2021 festival will see a slight change to its lineup. The previously announced Stefanie Sun, Jolin Tsai, BoA, Joker Xue, Tanya Chua, EggPlantEgg, ShiGGa Shay, and THELIONCITYBOY will now be joined by Fish Leong, Power Station, Namewee and Boon Hui Lu.

More names will be revealed soon to replace 7 acts from the previous lineup – Goo Goo Dolls, Hebe Tien, Greyson Chance, Show Lo, Naoto Inti Raymi, Potato, KLEAR – who will no longer be performing at the festival.

Other than more than 15 hours of live music to enjoy during the two days, there will also be a brand-new Curated Village that will feature an enticing range of food as well as thrilling lifestyle and partner activations. Further details will be released via the festival’s social media channels in the days leading up to the event.

When the large-scale music festival was first announced, it was scheduled to be held last May. It was later postponed to this November due to COVID-19 concerns. However, as the pandemic shows no signs of slowing down, the festival has to be further delayed to the new 2021 dates.
