Arthur Chen recently explained his look in the drama, “Love in the 1970s,” saying that he purposely changed his physique to suit the character of Fang Muyang.

In a recent interview about the drama, the actor shared that he actually fasted for 24 hours in advance to induce a sense of weakness and then had a high-intensity fitness training to create the lean physique of a 1970s labourer.

He even added details like frostbite and peeling skin to bring the character to life.

“I don’t think a young man who does farm work every day in Northeast China can be skinny,” said Arthur, adding that his workout was specifically to portray the strength of a worker.

The drama, based on the web novel by Meng Zhong Deyi, tells the story of Fei Ni, a factory worker who proposes to her junior high school classmate Fang Muyang to enter into a fake marriage with her for housing. They become roommates and support each other’s dreams while falling in love.

The drama co-stars Sun Qian as Fei Ni, as well as other actors including Wang Tiancheng, Guo Xiaoting, and Wu Yue.

Arthur Chen Feiyu’s camp has recently slammed those responsible for spreading personal photos of the actor on social media.

The actor’s rep released such statement following the controversy surrounding photos of Arthur in bed with a woman that had since been identified as internet celebrity Yilin.

Stressing that both Arthur and Yilin, the latter who is now married, were both single at the time the photos were taken, the statement stressed that the photos have violated their privacy and that legal action could be taken.

“I implore netizens to stop disseminating relevant information immediately, and the relevant subjects immediately delete defamatory speech against Chen Feiyu.”

It was back on 13 February that tabloids released the photos of Arthur being fast asleep next to a mystery woman. The woman was later revealed to be Yilin, of whom sources said had been a big fan of the actor since he was a teenager.

Arthur Chen’s fans are uniting when it comes to facing obsessed and ‘stalk-ish’ fans of the actor.

As reported on Sina, on 8 January, the actor’s fan club issued an announcement boycotting any kinds of obsessive behaviours, hoping that fans will follow their favourite actor rationally, keep a distance and to never cross the line.

The announcement also stated that non-working places such as hotels and airplane cabins are considered the artiste’s private space and should not be breached.

“We should give artistes enough rest time and respect their personal privacy. We have been doing our best to resist illegitimate behaviour, and the fans club does not encourage or promote such obsessive behaviour.”

Arthur Chen has been one of the rising stars of mainland China for the past few years, especially after playing the role of Duan Bowen in the 2017 drama, “Secret Fruit” and Yu Huai in 2019’s “My Best Summer”.

He is soon to be seen in the new movie, “Yesterday Once More” as well as the TV series, “Immortality”.
