After more than 40 years in the industry, Andy Lau recently revealed that he plans to become a director in 2028.

The Hong Kong superstar shared the good news during a recent brand event, saying that he will begin focusing on directing following his concert tour.

“I will definitely become a director in 2028, don’t worry. After I successfully complete my 2028 concert tour, I will devote myself to behind-the-scenes work and become a true film director,” he said.

“I’ve really thought about it for a long time. I should take a step forward. If I don’t do it now, people might really forget about me,” he added.

Andy revealed that as early as 1981, when he was 20 years old and enrolled in the 10th TVB Artist Training Class, he had already conceived the idea of ​​becoming a director and screenwriter.

He admitted that over the past ten years, he had secretly written several scripts during breaks from filming and touring, accumulating a large number of well-developed stories, but he had never had the opportunity to direct them himself.

However, he stated that he would like to focus on making realistic stories instead of the crime-related films he has starred in.

Andy Lau recently admitted that he had only learned of old friend Danny Poon’s passing only after he had died.

The actor, who was asked about the former actor’s passing during the McDonald’s Children’s Charity Marathon in Hong Kong on 18 April, solemnly admitted that he knew about it and that it happened before the Lunar New Year.

It is noted that Danny’s death was confirmed through the “In Memoriam” section of the official souvenir magazine for the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards, with no details regarding the date of his passing or even the cause of death.

Andy admitted that he and Danny had not been in contact for decades, so he only learned of Danny’s passing when he received the news.

When pressed by the media about the last time they met, whether he knew about Danny’s funeral arrangements, and whether he would do anything for Danny, Andy only responded, “I’ll talk to you about these things privately.”

It is noted that Danny and Andy were both the alumni of TVB’s Acting Training Class of 1981. The two were inseparable in their early years, sharing an apartment and earning the nickname “Siamese twins” from the media. It was also rumoured that Andy would entrust Danny, who starred in numerous classics like “Police Cadet ’84” and “The Duke of Mount Deer,” to cover up his relationship with his now wife Carol Chu at the time.

Danny retired from showbiz in 1998, and seemed to have cut ties with everybody involved in the industry since then.

Although he is technically, as he said it himself, “unemployed” now that his three-year tour is over, Jacky Cheung doesn’t see himself reuniting with the other Cantopop Heavenly Kings for a special show.

The singer, who is one of the four performers that received the moniker, said that he would prefer to have the Four Heavenly Kings to remain a beautiful memory in everyone’s heart.

“I always say that the Four Heavenly Kings is just an era. In fact, there is no such thing as the Four Heavenly Kings anymore. Everyone is developing and doing things separately,” he said.

Jacky also said that the title was only given to him, Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai by the media at the time, not something that they created themselves.

“I would rather it remains a beautiful feeling and memory. We are not out of sight, everyone can see us, and we often come out. Leon Lai is about to have a concert, and Aaron Kwok just finished his concert, which means we are all working together, and everyone can see us,” he said.

TVB actor Jonathan Cheung recently surprised many by announcing that he is leaving the broadcaster after nearly 20 years.

Sharing the news on social media on 9 November, the actor, who joined TVB through Andy Lau’s recommendation back in 2006, revealed that he had just concluded his last drama for the station.

“19 years ago, Brother Wah (Andy Lau) arranged for me to join the TVB Acting Training Class like him and Brother Ka-Tung (Gordon Lam). I still clearly remember what Brother Ka-Tung told me before I joined TVB: ‘Once you’re in, don’t worry about anything else. Just keep your head down and work hard. You’ll definitely learn something!’ Indeed, by following that advice, 19 years later I’ve truly become a genuine actor! Thank you, Brother Wah and Brother Ka-Tung!”

After working with many producers and executives in multiple dramas, Jonathan said that TVB has given him such a great platform that allowed a wide audience to get to know him as an actor.

“Thank you for letting me meet the one and only goddess, Angie Mak, who became my wife and gave me a happy, perfect family,” he added.

He concluded by saying, “19 years later, I can finally say with great pride, ‘I, Jonathan Cheung, am an actor nurtured by Andy Lau and TVB!’ See you in the real world!”

If you think Andy Lau would be furious over Wong Jing peddling stories about his love life on YouTube, the answer would be no, he doesn’t really mind it.

The Hong Kong star, who attended the premiere of his new movie, “A Gilded Game” on 6 May, was asked about Wong’s recent YouTube video, in which the filmmaker shared stories on how Andy had to “play with time” when it comes to dating during the height of his popularity.

To that, he calmly responded, “I don’t mind. Everybody knows.”

In the video posted on 4 May, Wong revealed that it was hard for any girl to be Andy’s girlfriend at the peak of his popularity, and that even his wife Carol Chu was only able to meet the actor every few months when they started dating.

The filmmaker said that he was told by Andy that the actor would go to a place with almost no people to spend a week quietly during the Lunar New Year.

He also claimed that Andy could only go and watch a movie with his girlfriend 10 minutes after the movie started and leave 10 minutes before the end of the movie to avoid being discovered.

When asked if it was true, Andy said, “Every actor is like this.”

News of Barbie Hsu’s sudden passing shocked the whole entertainment industry, and the loss was immediately felt by friends of the actress, who took to social media to express their grief over the loss.

Two Cantopop Kings, two different concerts, two different accidents on the same day, and now both are assuring fans that they are doing well.

Andy Lau and Aaron Kwok recently had stage accidents while performing at their respective concerts. The 63-year-old Andy slipped at the edge of a three-metre-high platform while performing at his concert held at the Hong Kong Coliseum in Hung Hom, causing fans to scream in horror.

However, the singer, who has had similar accidents during his mainland tour, continued performing after the slip, and later took to social media to assure fans that he is okay.

“Dear family, I am fine. Thank you for your love. See you in my dreams,” he posted.

Meanwhile, Aaron, who was performing at the Taipei Arena as part of his ICONIC tour, also experienced similar situation when he accidentally fell off the stage. The singer reportedly fell when he stepped backwards during a performance when he didn’t realise that the platform had not elevated as expected. The sound of his microphone hitting the steel plate on the edge of the stage was heard at the scene.

His manager Siu Mei had since responded to questions by assuring that Aaron is fine.

“It’s just that the microphone he was holding hit the edge of the stage when he was changing the position. Nothing happened… There’s no big problem, let’s continue to perform. Thank you for your concern!”

Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau launched his “Today… is the Day” Concert Tour 2024 in Kuala Lumpur with tremendous success on 24 October. The event, sponsored by Maybank and MYEG, and put together by Star Planet and Infinitus, saw all four shows’ tickets snapped up in just two hours, with 40,000 fans securing their spots.

The 63-year-old entertainment icon delivered an impressive 2-hour-45-minute performance, demonstrating incredible energy through continuous singing and dancing that mesmerised over 10,000 attendees on that opening night. With characteristic humour, he shared his concern about potentially losing his voice after the first show due to the crowd’s enthusiastic response. In a touching moment, he promised fans, “If you’ll still watch me at 80, I’ll continue making great films and age alongside you!”

The concert opened spectacularly with Andy emerging on a 5-metre-high platform, joined by 24 dancers in princely costumes. He kicked off with fan favourites including “Today,” “No One Can Be Like You,” and “Foolish Child,” with the crowd joining in every chorus – a participation level Andy praised as “extraordinary.”

The production featured impressive staging, transitioning from scenes featuring a Chinese dragon to a vibrant 1920s Shanghai setting, complete with waltz sequences. The show masterfully combined visual effects with performance elements.

Returning to what he considers his second home after five years away, Andy expressed feeling a strong connection with his local supporters. Known as “Handsome Lau” for over 40 years, he joked that he’s even more handsome now than in his youth! When everyone promised to love him for ten thousand years, he humorously reminded them not to fool the elderly, as he placed full trust in their promise!

The concert concluded with an energetic encore featuring upbeat numbers from his extensive catalogue. Throughout the 165-minute show, Lau performed over 30 beloved hits, creating an unforgettable experience that drew enthusiastic applause and marked a stellar opening to his tour.

Andy Lau recently announced that he will be celebrating Christmas with his fans in Hong Kong with 20 shows throughout December to January.

Sharing the news on his official website, his team revealed, “For the final stop of the tour – Hong Kong, Andy will give you a total of 20 performances. Not only will he celebrate Christmas with the audience, but he will also count down to 2025 and have a long-lost New Year’s Eve carnival with fans and it is bound to be a smash hit.”

The concert shows, which will be held at the Hong Kong Coliseum, will start on 17 December and end on 10 January, with the dates ranging from 17 to 19 December, 21st and 22nd, 24th to 27th, 29th to 31st, and 1 January 2025.

He will then perform from 3 to 5 January, followed by 7 to 10 January. It will mark his return to Hong Kong Coliseum after six years.

“I will celebrate several important festivals with you on stage this year. Thank you all for accompanying me to celebrate the festivals. I will enjoy every moment,” said the singer.

In another instalment of “celebrities are just like us”, Jay Chou recently couldn’t help but express excitement over receiving a note from the Cantopop Heavenly King himself, Andy Lau.

On 12 September, the Taiwanese entertainer, who arrived in Shenzhen for his concert, revealed that he was surprised when he was greeted with a piece of paper with Andy’s message when he checked into the hotel.

The handwritten note read, “Hi, Jie-lun. It’s Andy! I have always wanted to tell you that we will work hard together, and hopefully our future work will go smoothly. I look forward to working together in the future, and be happy, healthy, and successful.”

Jay commented, “I received the blessing from King Lau himself as soon as I entered the door. I also wish brother Andy Lau peace and health and a successful concert.”

It is noted that Jay will be performing at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre, the same venue where Andy held his concert a few days prior.
