Can one be too much a doting father that one injures oneself? Well, you can, if you’re Alex Fong.

The former swimmer turned artiste shared this piece of information via Instagram Story, revealing that he strained his back while holding his daughter in one arm and having his other arm placed in an uncomfortable angle so that he can take a photo of baby Isla.

“I was supposed to go to a swimming competition later, but when I raised my arm to take a picture of my daughter, I strained my back. Why am I so bad?” he posted.

He then jokingly added, “Luckily the photo is quite pretty.”

Alex also shared a photo of his reddened back, saying that the injury made his hands tremble and his breathing hurt.

It is noted that the singer has been sharing lots of photos of his firstborn since her birth back in December. Alex also stated that he and his wife Maple plan to have more children in the future.

Elated to finally becoming a father, Alex Fong recently revealed that he plans to not stop at one when it comes to having children.

The actor-singer, who made his first public appearance as a guest performer at a dinner party following the birth of his daughter, said that he was moved to tears when he saw his daughter came into the world.

“I accompanied my wife into the delivery room… Becoming a father made me realise how deep parental love is. I felt like I have grown a lot and have a greater responsibility”, he said.

Alex added, however, that he still has a lot to learn on how to be a good father.

The 45-year-old also admitted that he is not getting any younger and hopes to have more kids in the future so that baby Isla will not be alone.

“I am truly grateful for the availability of painless childbirth, which has changed my wife’s mind and made her willing to continue having children,” he said, adding that they plan to get pregnant again this year so that they will have two kids in three years.

It is noted that Alex previously said that he plans to have another daughter that they could name her Lisa, so that he and Maple can use the abbreviation FAMILY (Fong, Alex, Maple, Isla, Lisa and Yip).

“Isla sounds like an island. I was even thinking that if we have another daughter, we can rearrange the name Isla to become Lisa, which seems pretty good. If you see a FAMILY license plate in the future, I am prepared to bid for it,” he said.

Alex Fong recently announced that he is now a father.

On 12 December, the singer-actor shared the good news on social media with a video at the hospital, writing, “Today was originally my wife Maple’s due date, but our daughter Isla was just too eager to meet us, so she arrived a few days early.”

Thanking the team at the Gleaneagles Hong Kong, Alex said that 2025 has been a special year for him and his wife, Maple Yip.

“From after we got married, Maple said she could have four kids, to during the pregnancy when it was so tough that she said at most two, and now after Isla’s birth, with so much support throughout the process, she says we can have three first,” he jokingly said.

Alex later shared a series of photos of his baby, writing, “Before Isla was discharged, Gleneagles Hospital Hong Kong said they would give us a photo, so I thought it would be something very simple, so I didn’t bother fixing my hair. Who knew two photographers showed up with two cameras.”

“But when the photos came out, they were beautiful. Turns out I wasn’t even the main character. You can hardly see me at all,” he added.

Soon-to-be dad Alex Fong is elated to share that he and his expecting wife Maple Yip have chosen a name for their unborn daughter, as well as their future second child if they are blessed to have another.

The singer, who performed for fans at his concert in Macau on 15 November, shared that he and Maple plan to have the combination of their initials create the word FAMILY.

He said the word FAMILY consists of F for Fong, A for Alex, M for Maple, I for their unborn daughter Isla, then the letter L for their future second child, as well as Y for Yip, which is Maple’s maiden surname.

“Isla sounds like an island. I was even thinking that if we have another daughter, we can rearrange the name Isla to become Lisa, which seems pretty good. If you see a FAMILY license plate in the future, I am prepared to bid for it,” he said.

Alex announced his marriage to Maple in February this year, nearly two years after the two started dating. In June, he announced that Maple is pregnant with their first child.

Alex Fong recently won three gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships 2025 in Singapore, and shared for the first time ever, a photo of him with wife Maple Yip.

On 19 August, the singer-actor and former Olympic swimmer shared about his experience competing in the championship, revealing that he and his wife actually had planned to return to Hong Kong on 8 August for a performance in Guangxi.

However, it all changed when he was ranked second for the 200m backstroke and first in the 400m individual, the latter in which he was placed fourth last year.

“Because of being ranked first in the 400m individual medley, my wife decided to change her plane ticket and stay in Singapore alone to wait for me, hoping I’d catch the flight to support my bid for gold in person,” he said.

After taking a flight to Guangxi for the performance and then catching his flight back to Singapore, Alex said that he went straight to the competition.

“The third hurdle was my physical condition: I only managed two hours of sleep on the plane, my immunity was low and I had caught a cold, which of course affected my confidence. But since everything had aligned so smoothly, I could only trust fate and do my best. Encouraged by my wife and teammates, I swam my signature event, the 400m individual medley, this time completing it 7 seconds faster than at last year’s World Championships in Doha, and earned my second gold of this meet.”

He also won gold for the 200m individual medley and the 200m backstroke.

In the said photo which he shared on social media, a beaming Maple is wearing a grey sweatshirt and jeans, barely hiding her baby bump.

Alex excitedly said, “It’s so perfect that my parents, brother, wife, and daughter who is due this year are all here to witness me receiving this gold medal.”

Alex Fong recently admitted that he had been spending some time putting out fires after he was blasted for his supposed preference of having a son instead of a daughter.

As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who recently announced that he is having a daughter at his concert in mainland China, shared that a lot of people misconstrued his words, including the mums of his swimming students, as well as his own wife.

It is noted that during the previous concert, Alex showed a video of him and his wife finding out the gender of the baby, and then exclaimed, “I can’t accept this reality. I was convinced it was a boy. This has completely shocked me!”

Alex clarified that he actually loves the idea of having a daughter, but on the day of the gender reveal, he thought it was going to be a boy and didn’t want his wife to worry that he was disappointed.

“So I told my wife, ‘Don’t worry about me. I really like sons,’” he said.

He explained that the unexpected reveal caused him to shout “I can’t accept this reality” in the heat of the moment. He also blamed media outlets for using clickbait headlines that made the situation worse.

Alex also joked that the whole thing nearly drove him to the brink of “family crisis”.

On the other hand, the actor said that his wife Maple is now five months pregnant, and that he plans to be there with her in the delivery room when the time comes.

Alex Fong recently announced that he and wife Maple Yip are welcoming a daughter soon.

The singer shared the good news during his concert in Foshan, where he played a video of him and Maple having a conversation about the gender of their baby while the screen showed an ultrasound of the foetus.

“To be honest, to this day, I am still unsure if it’s really a daughter. So, at the end of this month, I will accompany my wife to get an anatomical scan to see if there is anything protruding,” he joked.

Alex said that he will reconfirm the news with fans again next time and share the name they picked for their baby.

Asked what difference does it make to have a son or a daughter, Alex laughed and said that his son will be under pressure because he will force his son to become a swimmer like him.

However, he will be the one under pressure if it’s a daughter, as he will need to be fitter and live longer to protect her.

“My dad is turning 80 this year. I wish him good health and boundless energy!” he added.

Alex confirmed his relationship with Maple in 2023. Maple was already known at the time following her appearance in the Netflix documentary, “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal”, where she spoke about being the victim of the South Korean cult leader, Jung Myung-seok.

It was on 14 February that Alex announced that he and Maple had tied the knot in the US. “We got married here. Wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day. #itsawonderfonglife,” he posted.

After announcing his marriage with Maple Yip in the United States, one of Alex Fong’s first order of business as he arrived in Hong Kong was to meet veteran actress Rebecca Chan.

On 1 March, the actress posted a couple of photos of her with Alex and his newly-wedded wife, writing, “My second prince has finally entered another stage of life. The Empress Dowager wishes them happiness.”

To that, Alex responded, “Thank you, Queen Mother.”

The nicknames were in reference to their 2005 drama, “My Family”, where Alex plays one of Rebecca’s sons alongside Hawick Lau and Sam Chan.

The two have also played mother and son in two other movies, “Marriage with a Fool” (2006) and “Anniversary” (2015), both starring Alex’s former long-time girlfriend Stephy Tang.

It was back on Valentine’s Day that Alex announced that he has tied the knot with his girlfriend of two years.

The news was shared by the Hong Kong singer-actor on social media on Valentine’s Day with two photos at a pier believed to be in Santa Monica, California, including one where the two of them were standing and looking at a banner in the sky carrying the words, “Maple, Marry Me?”

“We got married here. Wishing everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day. #itsawonderfonglife,” he posted.

Many friends took to the comments to congratulate the couple, including Linda Chung, who posted, “I am sooo happy for you two. May love and unity always surround you both.”

Alex confirmed his relationship with Maple in 2023. Maple was already known at the time following her appearance in the Netflix documentary, “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal”, where she spoke about being the victim of the South Korean cult leader, Jung Myung-seok.

Alex was not only publicly supporting her but also expressed his willingness to accompany Maple to South Korea to testify in court.
