The Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA), one of Taiwan’s leading awards dedicated to original music, has announced the nominees for its 17th edition.

This year, GIMA received 4,242 submissions, while the Best Asian Creative Artist category, dedicated to artistes from across Asia outside Taiwan, drew a record-high 105 entries. The milestone underscores GIMA’s growing and deepening connections with music communities across the region.

The theme of the 17th GIMA is “觸 TRUE,” pairing the Taiwanese expression 觸 (chù) with the English word “TRUE.” In Taiwan, “chu” describes the feeling of being emotionally struck by something or finding that it deeply resonates. The theme highlights authentic creative expression and its ability to resonate across cultures.

This year’s jury is chaired by Fang Q, bassist of Taiwanese band Cosmos People, who said the record 4,242 entry submissions reflect the vitality and creative diversity of Taiwan’s music scene.

Among this year’s most internationally recognizable nominees is Sunset Rollercoaster. The band’s latest album, “QUIT QUIETLY,” is nominated for Best Album, Best Band, and Best Alternative Pop Album, while “Bluebird” is nominated for Best Alternative Pop Song. Tseng Kuo Hung is also nominated for Best Singer-Songwriter for “QUIT QUIETLY”.

Across the categories, this year’s nominees span jazz, electronic music, hip-hop, and works rooted in different languages and local cultural traditions, highlighting the range of Taiwan’s contemporary music scene.

GIMA’s Best Asian Creative Artist continues to connect Taiwan with music communities across the region. This year, the award received 105 entries, setting a new record for the category. The five nominated works are ena mori’s “Ore,” KIKI’s “Death of a Daisy & Birth of an Oyster,” SHNTI’s  “Melting PT.,” N.Y.P.D.’s “DON’T LIKE Wo Zhongyi,” and “NAMDO CALLING” by NAMDO CALLING.

Beyond the competitive categories, this year’s Jury Award goes to Yuhan Su for “Over the Moons”. The GIMA Impact Award honours Blue Note Taipei and the founder Tsai Bop, recognizing their long-standing contribution to Taiwan’s jazz culture and live music scene.

Ahead of the awards ceremony, GIMA LIVE, the official lead-up showcase to the Golden Indie Music Awards, will take place on 21 and 22 October at CORNER MAX in Taipei, showcasing final performances from the Best Live Performance nominees to determine and reveal the winner.

The 17th Golden Indie Music Awards Ceremony will take place at 7:00 PM on Saturday, 31 October at Taipei Music Center, with a livestream available to international audiences.

The full list of nominees, GIMA LIVE lineup and further information about the awards ceremony will be available through the official Golden Indie Music Awards channels on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

U.S. Awarded Pop Queen and the Golden Voice Queen of Europe, Malaysian singer JessC, who is based in Australia, has added another major accolade to her growing list of achievements, winning World Artist of the Year at the 12th Annual Josie Music Awards in the United States.

The world’s largest independent music awards received 101,791 submissions from artists across more than 40 countries. The ceremony was held recently at the legendary Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, one of the most iconic venues in American music.

Often described as the “Grammys of independent music,” the Josie Music Awards honours outstanding independent musicians across genres. Its judging panel includes Grammy-winning musicians, accomplished songwriters, record producers and international music executives.

World Artist of the Year is one of the awards’ most significant international recognitions, honouring performers whose work demonstrates strength across music creation, performance and international reach. Unlike awards focused on a single genre or regional market, the category reflects an artist’s broader presence in the international independent music landscape, including multilingual artistry, cross-cultural communication and overall artistic development.

JessC also received two nominations for her song “One Chance” — Social Impact Song of the Year and Social Impact Video of the Year — giving her recognition across three categories at this year’s ceremony.

In recent years, JessC has steadily expanded her international presence through songs recorded in English, Mandarin and Malay, using music, music videos and live performances to connect with audiences from different cultural backgrounds. Her work has earned a growing collection of international awards and industry recognition.

Speaking about her latest achievement, JessC admitted she was deeply moved and became emotional when she learned she was the winner. “Still taking it all in… This has been a dream of mine since I was young — to one day be able to make a meaningful contribution to my country. I never imagined that one day, I would have the opportunity to represent Australia, Malaysia and Asia on an international stage.”

JessC stressed that the award was not the result of one individual’s efforts, but the culmination of years of work by an international team.

She thanked the organisers and judges of the Josie Music Awards, as well as the teams in Australia, the United States and Taiwan who have contributed to her music production, music videos and promotional work. She also thanked her management team across Australia, the United States, Europe, China, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia.

Her music has attracted attention from media organisations, radio stations, television outlets and music platforms across North America, Australia, Europe, Africa, South America and Asia, and has been featured by publications including Rolling Stone, Billboard and Earmilk.

Despite the growing recognition, JessC said she does not see the latest award as the culmination of her journey. “I know I still have so much to learn, and so many ways I can continue to grow. This is not the end. It’s the beginning of a brand-new chapter.”

She dedicated the honour to her family, her team and the fans who have supported her throughout her career. “Your love, encouragement, support and belief in me have given me the strength to keep going. So… when I look at this award, I don’t just see my name. I see you.”

As JessC continues to build her career across international markets, she is steadily extending the reach of her multilingual music to audiences around the world. Her World Artist of the Year title at the 2026 Josie Music Awards now stands as another significant international milestone in that journey.

Malaysian singer-songwriter Jasmine Chong is set to hold her solo concert “Garden in the Room” in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

The concert, which will be held on 21 November (Saturday) at PJPAC Nero Space, will use music, stage design and visual elements to portray a journey of “putting down roots,” “moving towards the light” and “blooming”.

One month before the concert, Jasmine will also visit schools as part of her Campus Tour, where she will engage with students from different campuses through music and songwriting exchanges, building anticipation for the release of her upcoming solo EP of the same name.

Speaking about the upcoming concert, Jasmine enthused, “I feel that the process of writing songs is very similar to growing flowers. Both require a great deal of patience, and you have to keep watering and nurturing them before you can finally see them bloom. Thank you to everyone who has enjoyed my music along the way and been willing to accompany me.”

“You’ve helped someone as impatient as me learn to wait patiently for the day when my own garden truly blooms,” she added.

Concert tickets will go on sale publicly on 28 September (Monday), priced at RM158 and RM108 via onetix.com.my
