Liu Nian’s studio has denied allegations that the short-drama actress is being investigated for embezzlement by her management company.
The issue began on 4 November, when an entertainment blogger reported claims from a former employee of the agency. The former employee alleged that after Liu Nian became famous, she demanded to change the existing 50-50 revenue-sharing arrangement to a 90-10 split in her favour, which the company refused.
She was also alleged to have concealed her commercial endorsement income and to have privately collected and divided payments, misappropriating commercial deals worth more than one million yuan.
The company reportedly filed a police report at the end of September, and the case is said to be under investigation. Police have not issued any statement on the matter.
On the evening of 4 November, Liu Nian’s studio issued a statement firmly denying the allegations. It said that several gossip accounts on Weibo had fabricated false information claiming that Ms Liu Nian was suspected of criminal offences, was under investigation and had misappropriated commercial income.
The studio gave those responsible 24 hours to remove the false content, stop spreading the claims and publish a public apology. It said it would take legal action if they failed to do so, and would report any conduct that had caused serious damage and pursue criminal liability against those responsible.
