A conflict has now arisen following news that Tam Mei-kam, the mother of the late Anita Mui, has passed away.
It was revealed that her only living son, Mui Kai-ming is planning to hold the funeral for Mother Mui using the trust fund left by Anita, though a close friend of the late matriarch is saying that she had wanted her grandson to handle all affairs.
Mui Kai-ming recently spoke to the media outside the hospital, where he was spotted trying to claim his mother’s body. Stressing that he is Mother Mui’s only son, he believes that it is only right for him to handle his mother’s funeral arrangements.
As for reports that his late mother had severed her relationship with him before her death, Mui Kai-ming believes that blood ties cannot be severed, emphasising that “a mother is a mother for life,” and hopes that at this stage, letting his mother rest in peace should be the priority.
However, it is noted that Mother Mui’s close friend, Poon Siu Man, has recently revealed that the deceased had already made arrangements for her funeral, stating that her grandson should be handling all matters.
Poon also stated that the family hoped to handle the funeral quietly and hoped that Mui Kai-ming would respect Mother Mui’s wishes.
When asked about this, Mui stated, “A grandson is a grandson, and a son is a son.”
He stressed that he would not give up on handling his mother’s funeral arrangements because of this, and added, “If all else fails, I will go to a lawyer to issue an injunction, banning everything, so that nothing can be done!”
Tam Mei-kam passed away on 30 August at her home in Hong Kong. It was reported that she collapsed while being fed liquid oatmeal by her helper. She was 102.
