It was just as EYEKONS have suspected. Sophia Laforteza will not be joining her group mates for the European and UK legs of KATSEYE’s tour.
In a statement posted to social media, the group’s label said that Sophia, who is also KATSEYE’s leader, is committed to “focusing on her well-being” after announcing her temporary hiatus from the group in early August.
“We sincerely ask for EYEKONS’ warm understanding, as our highest priority will always be the health and long-term well-being of our artists. We will share further updates as they become available. Please continue to send your love, warmth, and support to Sophia and KATSEYE,” the statement added.
The singer herself has released her own statement via social media following the news, writing, “I can’t express enough how much I want to participate in this tour and perform for you all,” it reads in part. “I have to remind myself every day that our health and mental well-being should always be prioritised… I’ve been in ongoing treatment and doing everything I can to stay healthy, occupied and happy. You can’t pour from an empty cup.”
Sophia announced her hiatus earlier in August, saying that she is taking a break for her mental health and wellness. The news came several months after another member, Manon Bannerman revealed in February that she will go on a break from the group to focus on her health and wellbeing.
KATSEYE kicks off their “Wildworld” tour on 1 September in Dublin.
