Jolin Tsai has emerged as one of the big winners at the Golden Melody Awards for her album, “Pleasure”.
The singer won Album of the Year as well as Best Mandarin Female Singer at the event held on 27 June at the Taipei Arena — her first Best Mandarin Female Singer win in 19 years.
Jolin won the title for the second time in 19 years, beating out competitors such as Julia Peng, Shan Yi-chun and Erika.
The jury members revealed that Jolin Tsai had already won in the first round of voting, praising her for demonstrating the sense of mission expected of a female singer in the Chinese music scene.
Speaking about her win, Jolin Tsai stated, “Standing on the Golden Melody Awards stage again, I felt much less nervous than last time. Seeing so many outstanding musicians made me realise that I still have so much to improve upon. I feel like my performances are constantly drafting, putting my beliefs, choices, and values into my work with each performance. If my fans can remember me and find strength in my songs, that’s very important to me.”
