More than a year since Zhang Yuan (aka Bird Zhang) revealed that he is battling a mental health issue, the singer recently admitted that the battle still continues.

The 40-year-old, who sat down for an interview recently, shared that he has decided not to take medication or seek treatment for his bipolar disorder, but to confront it in his own way.

“Honestly, I’m still a bit stubborn about it. Although it’s there, I don’t want to admit it. Because over these years, I’ve lost a lot of money, gone through a painful breakup, and even experienced life and death. Especially after you’ve faced death, a lot of things get stripped away from you. Many things in your heart suddenly turn cold, and no matter what you do, you can’t warm them up again. I’ve been through that stage,” he said.

However, Zhang said that he is unwilling to give in.

“I’m still fighting it now. I don’t want to rely on medication or therapy to deal with it. That’s just the mindset I’ve always had,” he added.

It was in March last year that Zhang addressed the issue of bipolar disorder in a social media post, saying, “There’s no need to exaggerate it. In my view, life has its ups and downs. It is normal to be having emotional problems. I’ve always believed that even if there’s a bit of a problem, it’s not really a problem. People are as strong as they are fragile.”
