Although it has been a while since she starred in a movie, Drew Barrymore recently clarified that she is not retiring for good.
The actress, who hasn’t done a lot of movies since the 2010s, told Andy Cohen during an interview on “Radio Andy” that she just doesn’t want to be on a film set for now what with the many hats she is currently wearing.
“But that could change when my kids are older. I stopped doing movies when my kids were born. Because I’ve done it since I was in diapers – 11 months-old is when I started – it was a no-brainer to me to put making movies on a back-burner so that I can be present and raise my kids myself. I didn’t want to be on a film set asking the nanny how the kids were. That is not my journey,” she said.
Barrymore added that she realised after stepping away that it was “a lot less scary” and that she found other things that she could do.
“I’ve started brands, I was able to write a book, I got to do at the perfect time this Netflix show called “Santa Clarita Diet”,” she said, the last one referring to her now-defunct comedy series on the said platform.
Barrymore, who started her movie career as a five year-old on “Altered States” (1980) and finding success as a child star through “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial”, is currently working on “The Drew Barrymore Show”, which is produced by her own studio, Flower Productions. She also recently starred in Jamie Babbit’s film, “The Stand In” – her first movie in five years.
