The Movement Control Order (MCO) in Malaysia which begun on 18 March is well into its eighth week now, a considerably long pause for the economic sectors and local watering holes are among those hard hit by the temporarily closure of businesses across the country.

To help these local bars and pubs to stay afloat after the MCO is lifted, Heineken Malaysia has launched a new platform, “Raise Our Bars”.

Through this, Malaysian consumers can purchase a voucher for a beer, stout or cider from their favourite bar, and receive an additional one free of charge when they redeem it.
To purchase, visit www.raiseourbars.my. Select your state, find the bar you want to support, and buy up to three vouchers for Heineken®, Guinness, Tiger, or Apple Fox. Each redemption will include two of your selected drink – the additional drink is free-of-charge, sponsored by Heineken Malaysia as a thank you for supporting your local bar.
“The past few months have been difficult for Malaysia’s bars and pubs, with many finding it difficult to recover from the financial hardships they have faced. To help them get through this challenging time, we have committed RM1 million to Raise Our Bars in addition to other support over the months,” said Vasily Baranov, Sales Director of Heineken Malaysia, in a press statement.
“We believe that together we can help breathe life back into Malaysian bars and pubs. That’s why we’re asking the public to join us in supporting their favourite bars and pubs today, and make sure we keep the lights on for them.
“We would also like to urge consumers to enjoy responsibly when they redeem their vouchers – understand your drink limits, do not drink and drive, as well as maintain social distancing and good hygiene practices,” he added.
More than 750 bars and pubs from across the country have signed up for “Raise Our Bars”. Aside from sponsoring the additional drinks, Heineken Malaysia will also absorb all associated fees and charges, which means that 100% of the voucher price goes directly to the chosen bar.
Vouchers can be redeemed when bars reopen until 31 August 2020, depending on when each outlet reopens.
Previously, Heineken Malaysia showed support to local street food vendors, coffee shops, and food courts by donating RM1.5 million through its Tiger Beer brand.
