The late singer will be “resurrected” by US-based production house Digital Domain through the power of its Virtual Human Technology.
The technology was first used in the ground-breaking CGI applied to Brad Pitt in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”. It was later used to create a virtual model of Tupac Shakur at the legendary rapper’s “live” show at the 2012 Coachella Valley Music Festival.
This will not be Teresa’s first posthumous performance. A prototype of the technology was trialled in Jay Chou’s “Opus Jay 2013 World Tour”, where a virtual image of the singer performed a duet with Chou. From just a guest appearance all those years ago, now she is all set to be headlining her own concert soon.
Joining Teresa at the upcoming concert are en-Ray, Jocelyn Chang and Chan Ai Chia – known as Japan’s Teresa Teng, Taiwan’s Teresa Teng and Malaysia’s Teresa Teng, respectively.
Each of the singers has carved out a career in emulating Teng’s crystal clear vocals. For en-Ray, who trained in Beijing Opera and the China Conservatory of Music, it will be the culmination of a career that began in 2005. For Jocelyn Chang, endorsed by the Teresa Teng Foundation, it will continue attention on her uncanny ability to mimic her idol. And for Chan Ai Jia, it will confirm her talent for extending Teng’s legacy.
Joining the trio on stage will also be two-time Grammy Award-winning American violinist Jamii Szmadzinski, who will put his unique instrumental spin on Teresa Teng classics with his electric violin.
