25-year-old Thai-Swedish model Mareeya Poonlertlarp Ehren has won the title of Miss Universe Thailand 2017 at the Siam Paragon Hall last Saturday night.
The 183cm beauty queen not only won herself the coveted title, but also a cash prize of THB1 million, a brand new car and the trophy.
The Thai-Swedish model, who is a postgraduate in marketing from the Stockholm Business School, is said to be to be fluent in four languages – Thai, Swedish, English and Mandarin.
The multi-lingual beauty will now represent Thailand at the international Miss Universe 2017 pageant in Las Vegas this coming November.
“I want to do good for the society at large and the status of Miss Universe Thailand allows me to follow my passion efficiently,” she said as quoted by the Nation.
“This beauty stage is powerful to speak and to do something for the society. The rights of women in Thailand, their education and premature pregnancy of teenagers are three key issues I want to draw people’s attention to,” Mareeya continued.
The first-runner up of Miss Universe Thailand 2017 went to Supaporn Litiphruek, while joint second-runners-up include Suraphuen Artkongharn, Ratchanok Nawaset and Paweensuda Du-uen.
The only Thai who ever won the Miss Universe title was Porntip Nakhirankanok back in 1988.
