“The Monkey King” production has recently announced the upcoming third instalment of the hit franchise, “The Monkey King 3: Kingdom of Women”.

As reported on Mingpao News, Hong Kong director Cheang Pou Soi attended the press conference of the upcoming film and revealed that most of the cast members will return for the third movie, including Feng Shaofeng and Xiao Shenyang, who played Monk Tang and Zhu Bajie in the previous movies, respectively.

However, there is no news about whether Aaron Kwok will return as the titular character, or if Him Law will be reprising his role as Sha Wujing. The same goes to the actress who will play the Ruler of Women’s Country (also known as the Kingdom of Women), who falls in love with Tang and wants to marry him.
Cheang stated that the rest of the cast will be announced as soon as filming starts. However, it is noted that he previously disclosed that he plans to change the actor who will play Sun Wukong/The Monkey King in every movie to give the audience a fresh new movie every time. Aaron previously replaced Donnie Yen as the titular character in the sequel.
Filming will begin in November, with the movie tentatively scheduled for a 2018 release.
