While the 1MDB investigations on Malaysian-born financier Jho Low is still ongoing, the Taiwanese media recently unearthed proof of his previous romance rumours with pop diva Elva Hsiao.
As reported on Liberty Times, back in 2012, a video of a supposed costly surprise proposal made by a wealthy businessman to Elva circulated the internet, sparking rumours about their relationship.
Entitled “Surprise Engagement Proposal Rumoured to Cost Over £1m”, the video, which was taken by professional wedding videographer complete with Tchaikovsky’s “The Swan Lake” as its background music, showed a lavish candle-light dinner on a private beach in Dubai, with an LED board spelling the words JHO [loves] ELVA.
There were also fireworks, parachutes flying down with various expensive gifts presented by many men in suits, a harp performance, and many more.
When the video made the news that year, Elva was still dating actor Kai Ko, which prompted her agency to explain that the video happened a couple of years before and that it was just a dinner, not a marriage proposal as it was reported.
They also clarified that Elva and Jho are just friends and that the singer has already returned all the jewellery. Jho’s side also denied the romance rumours, saying that it was just a dinner.
On the other hand, Elva’s management has declined to make any more comments regarding the video, while members of the public, who have been observing the 1MDB case, have started to question how much the spending may have come through illegal methods.
