As reported on Mingpao News, the campaign, called “Salute to Our Firefighters”, was launched on social media on 27 June, with celebrities urging people to upload a photo of themselves holding a piece of paper with the aforementioned message on one hand, and a light on the other.
Hong Kong celebrities have recently banded together to show their support to the firefighters who worked hard in extinguishing a deadly fire in Ngau Tau Kok recently.
Led by veteran star Eric Tsang, various stars have started doing so online, including Andy Lau, Jackie Chan, Aaron Kwok, GEM Tang, Eason Chan, and Sammo Hung.
It was also revealed that nine Hong Kong TV and radio stations have also helped launch the campaign, with hundreds of singers recording the 1993 Jonathan Lee song, “Sincere Hero”, rewritten to suit the occasion.
Senior fireman Samuel Hui, 37, and senior station officer Thomas Cheung, 30, died, with 11 others were injured while battling the fire, which occurred at a mini-storage facility at an industrial building, for almost five days.
