Malaysian Mandapop princess, Shila Amzah has been appointed as the new Tourism Malaysia ambassador to China due to her immense popularity in the country.
She was appointed at a ceremony in Beijing by the Malaysian Tourism and Culture Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
“Ms. Shila Amzah is a popular and well-respected figure in the Chinese world music industry. We are very proud of her talents and her achievements here. Through her songs and stage performances, she has won the hearts of the Chinese,” said the Tourism and Culture Minister in a statement.
“The appointment of Shila Amzah as our Tourism Ambassador is a natural step towards strengthening the tourism and cultural ties between our two nations,” he added.
After winning “Asian Wave”, Shila Amzah achieved great amount of popularity in China, Taiwan and even Hong Kong as she now has over 2.5 million followers on Weibo.
She has also released two original mandarin songs titled “See You or Never” (再見不再見) and “Goodbye” (再見).
“I am confident that her role as Tourism Ambassador will further enhance Malaysia’s tourism brand in China and bring great value and meaning to our promotional efforts. I trust that the experience will also be a personally fulfilling and rewarding one for her,” said Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.
