The 51-year-old star revealed to the media on 29 March that his decision to return has nothing to do with money, but based on “goodwill and friendship”.
It has been more than a year since funnyman Gurmit Singh announced his departure from showbiz, and now the former “Pua Chu Kang” star is back as a host of Mediacorp Channel 5’s latest game show, “Don’t Forget to Remember”.
He also stressed that the game show is just a fun project, according to The New Paper, a marketing awareness sort of deal to remind people that he is still around and not in any way a platform for his permanent return.
Gurmit left his full-time career back in November 2015 to spend more time with wife, Melissa, and their three children, Gabrielle, 18, Elliot, 14, and Mikaela, 3. He previously stated he used to put other things above his time with his family, and the departure helped him make up for the lost time with them.
And unlike in the past, Gurmit said he discussed the game show project with his family first before deciding to take it.
The game show “Don’t Forget to Remember” consists of a four-round challenge based on observation, attention to detail, and the power of recall, with contestants having the chance to win more than SGD10,000.
The first episode is to premiere on 9 May 2016 at 7.30pm on Channel 5.
