Former vocalist for legendary rock bands, Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, Scott Weiland has died.

The 48-year-old singer was found dead this morning (around 9pm, Thursday in North America) on his Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts tour bus in Minnesota, according to a report by TMZ.com.

Battling substance abuse for years had contributed with the singers falling out with his band members in Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, however the cause of his death has yet to be confirmed.

However a statement on Scott Weiland’s Facebook says that the rocker had apparently passed away in his sleep.

“Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his band The Wildabouts. At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.”

Jane’s Addiction guitarist, Dave Navarro had tweeted, “Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died. So gutted, I am thinking of his family tonight.”

The tweet was later deleted.
