Hong Kong’s famous Mak’s noodles will soon open its first ever outlet in Malaysia’s 1 Utama Shopping Mall under a new brand called Mak’s Chee by next year January.
First starting as a street-side eatery in Guangzhou before World War II, Mak’s brand is known for its delicious and authentic wonton noodles, which recipes have remained unchanged since it first started.

The cuisine is also enjoyed by other famous personalities like the first lady Soong May-Ling, the infamous food critic Chua Lam as well as American chef, author and television host Anthony Bourdain.
The Malaysian outlet will be handled by Chef Johnny Yu who is the grandson-in-law of the founder.
Yu has been mastering the noodle recipe and cooking style since he was 17 under the guidance of Mak-en, his father-in-law and son to Mak Woon-chi.

“Our decision to open a restaurant in Malaysia was due primarily to the overwhelming requests and good feedback we’ve received from our Malaysian tourists when they visited Hong Kong,” said Mr. Gary Crestejo, Director of Mak’s Chee.
“It was an extremely big challenge to find the right ingredients here in Malaysia, but we’ve made it, and possibly at an even better quality than what we had in Hong Kong. I’m so excited!” Chef Johnny Yu added.
