Invest a cool RM10,000 and you can adopt a pair of barn owls with its own owl box, and help Subang Jaya get rid of the rats that have been infesting the community in Subang Jaya.

The increasing number of rats has been an issue in Subang Jaya area lately, so the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) have decided to rely on the ability of night hunters, the owls – to hunt down these pesky rodents.

However, the project which will run for a period of two years is expected to cost RM100,000, which include sourcing for the owls, establishing the owl boxes and the radio tracking devices on the owls.

Thus, the Subang Jaya Owls, an effort to reintroduce barn owls (Tyto Alba) into Subang Jaya for controlling rat populations in the urban area – is enlisting help from the people to help adopt an owl box which will be placed in community gardens in the vicinity of Subang Jaya’s commercial areas (SS15, USJ10 and Sunway Metro).

As mentioned above, each owl box will have a pair of barn owls and will cost one RM10,000. The adopted parents of the owl box will have their company logo (or other insignia) on the signage of the owl box, including all education and awareness materials developed for this initiative.
