Over the past few months, there have been non-stop complaints from Malaysian taxi drivers claiming that ride-sharing apps like Uber and GrabCar have been stealing their potential customers.
Now, the taxi drivers are working together to create a new taxi-hailing app called MesraCab, which is set to be launched next year!
According to The Star, the app is developed “wholly by taxi drivers”, with a purpose to counter the growth of ride-sharing apps and to take back their potential customers.
“This app uses 100% metered taxis which have been approved by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD),” said Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Application Taxi Drivers Association (PERTAPPS) secretary Apriman Darlis.
Over 100 taxi drivers have already registered as MesraCab drivers, and these drivers must be registered at any one of Malaysia’s 23 taxi associations.
Like MyTeksi, each successful hail of MesraCab will be charged a RM2 booking fee.
The app will be officially launched on February 2016.
