Director Hou Hsiao-hsien’s martial art film, “The Assassin”, is leading this year’s Golden Horse Awards with 11 nominations, according to Focus Taiwan.

In the announcement, which was made on 1 October by the Golden Horse organisers, it was revealed that the movie is nominated for major categories including Best Film, Best Director, best Actress for Shu Qi, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Action Choreography.

Chang Tso-chi’s “Thanatos, Drunk” followed suit with ten nominations, including Best Film and Best Director, as well as all the acting categories except for Best Actress.
Hong Kong director Philip Yung’s “Port of Call”, meanwhile, received nine nominations including Best Actor for lead star Aaron Kwok, while Jia Zhangke’s “Mountains May Depart” received seven, the highest for a mainland movie competing in the upcoming awards.
