Derek Yee’s self-financed film, “I Am Somebody”, has been selected to open this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival.

As reported on Film Business Asia, the movie, which stars unknown actors but features an ample amount of star cameos, chronicles the trials and tribulations of extras working in the world’s largest film studio.

The filmmaker, whose famous works include “Shinjuku Incident”, “The Great Magician”, and “One Night in Mongkok”, revealed in a previous interview that the movie is a microcosmic representation of modern China’s youth.
Meanwhile, Sino-Russia production “Ballet in the Flames of War” will be the closing film of this year’s festival.
The 18th Shanghai International Film Festival will be held from 13 to 21 June.
