Chinese fashion bloggers have criticised the stars who attended the recently held Met Ball for missing rather than hitting the theme of this year’s Gala.

According to ECNS News, though this year’s theme for the annually held New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Gala was “China: Through the Looking Glass”, some of the western stars came to the event wearing dresses with no regard to the theme at all.

China’s most influential Weibo fashion blogger, Thomas Ye, criticised the sheer ‘barely-there’ dresses worn by stars such as Kim Kardashian, Beyonce, and J.Lo, as well as Katy Perry’s Moschino gown for going astray from the theme, while commenting that Sarah Jessica Parker’s headdress with red tassels is similar to the crown on Fuwa – the mascot of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Solange Knowles was criticised for wearing a gown that looks like a monster clamshell from a Chinese fairy tale, while Miley Cyrus’ gown looks like “Qing Dynasty’s torture tools used against criminal”.
However, some celebrities, including Emily Blunt and Bee Shaffer, were safe from criticisms due to their accurate fashion interpretation of Chinese culture.
