The inaugural Butterworth Fringe Festival (BFF) will have its debut during the annual George Town Festival (GTF), which will be taking place in the month of August.
According to GTF director Joe Sidek, the festival is made with the intention to spice up the sleepy town of Butterworth, Malaysian Insider reports.
BFF will be held at Jalan Jeti Lama from 15 to 16 August 2015. The 2-day festival will feature performances and art exhibitions from local and international artists, performers and designers.
Some of the international acts include t.r.a.n.s.i.t.s.c.a.p.e.s dance troupe from Belgium, Taiwan street artist Isaac Huo, French aerial dance group Retouramont and some other amazing performers!
A number of parties and organisations have also decided to contribute to the inaugural festival.
The Japan Foundation will present the Bunraku Puppet Show, Alliance Francaise will bring in French food, films, fashion, dance and others.
Malaysian art duo TerryandTheCuz will feature their award-winning Welcome2Flatland installation, Design Village from Batu Kawan, will host a fashion runway on the street and local actor, comedian and cartoonist Imuda will also be showcasing his works.
“We are highlighting it as part of GTF for now so we can attract thousands of people to come and see it,” said Joe Sidek. “It can one day be like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which became as big as the Edinburgh Festival. A fringe festival has a life of its own.”
All the events held during BFF are open for free to the public. GTF will start on 1 until 31 August 2015.
