It has been announced that Malaysian badminton player Lee Chong Wei has received an eight-month ban over a doping violation, according to the Badminton World Federation (BWF) today.
The former world number one shuttler was tested positive for dexamethasone, a banned anti-inflammatory agent back in October.
The good news is that the suspension will be backdated from 30 August and he will be eligible to play in competitions from 1 May, The Star reports.
In other words, Lee will be able to participate in three upcoming majors – Sudirman Cup in Dongguan from 10 – 17 May 2015, SEA Games in Singapore in June and the World Championships in Jakarta in August.
