It is confirmed that budget airlines AirAsia X will be spreading its wings to Hawaii and London by December this year, according to Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, CEO of AirAsia Group.
“It’s going to be a sexy route,” he said. “We have to go back to Europe. By being in Europe and the United States, it would change the brand profile quite dramatically,” he added as quoted by The Star.
Meanwhile, CEO of AirAsia X Group Datuk Kamarudin Meranun explained that the airline was going through operations organisation, capacity management and cost reduction.
“There were operational inefficiencies and redundancies in our operations. We are going to drop some of our routes and are also looking at ‘exclusive’ routes like Hawaii,” he explained. “I am pushing to have the Hawaii and Europe routes before December this year.”
Previously, the airline cancelled flights between Kuala Lumpur to London and Paris in 2012 due to the increase of fuel prices.
According to Wall Street Journal, AirAsia X plans to have four weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Hawaii via the Osaka route on 1 November onwards.
