Twitter and Periscope

Live-streaming has become a craze among many social media users with smartphones or tablets in their hands, which is why Twitter decided to make good use of this by creating a new app called Periscope.

The app will allow users and ‘wannabe broadcasters’ to stream live video and share their live broadcast through their Twitter site.

The app is similar to Meerkat – a recently-launched app with similar service – but Periscope is way more polished, neater and has more advantages; it can save streams so that users can replay them later for up to 24 hours, unlike Meerkat which can only stream a certain video once.

“It may sound crazy, but we wanted to build the closest thing to teleportation. While there are many ways to discover events and places, we realized there is no better way to experience a place right now than through live video. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but live video can take you someplace and show you around,” said the team behind Periscope app in their blog.

The app is currently only available on iOS for free, but according to Twitter, it will also be available for Android users soon.
