Monopoly is a fun, intense and addictive board game to play with your friends and family – with the main goal being forcing them into bankruptcy! Now, the game is going to be even more exciting because toy company, Hasbro, has slipped real money into 80 sets of Monopoly board game for its 80th anniversary in France.
In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the board game, 80 lucky customers (in France only, unless you go there and be one of the lucky buyers) will get to walk away with a Monopoly board game containing real cash.
However, only one set of the board game will have its fake notes fully replaced with real cash notes, a total amount of EUR20,580 (RM84203.35). Meanwhile, 10 sets of the board game will contain five EUR20, two EUR50 and one EUR100; a total of EUR300 (RM1227.45). As for the remaining 69 sets, those will have five EUR10 and five EUR20; a sum of EUR150 (RM613.73).
“We wanted to do something unique,” said Florence Gaillard, Brand Manager at Hasbro France to The Guardian. “When we asked our French customers, they told us they wanted to find real money in their Monopoly boxes.”
The 80 special edition sets were secretly released in France on Monday and these sets have one tiny problem – the boxes with real notes slightly expanded due to the thickness of Euro notes though the weight of the sets are no difference from the normal Monopoly sets with fake notes.
“The difference is marginal, unless you turn up at the shop with precision scales,” said Patrice Wimmer, a bailiff who recounted the notes when the games were escorted to France.
Monopoly board game is currently available in 111 countries and in 43 languages.
